Let me use my crew on the Scorpion SRV

Simple suggestion: allow my crew pilot (AI) to be able to board my Scorpion SRV.

That way, I let my crew control the SRV's weapons automatically, while I do all the driving.

The aim and skill of using weapons could be based on your range of experience.

Same for ships - using crew in combination with turreted weapons should give some bonus.

For SRV - it would be helpful if you crew can control its movement and follow you or the direction you may point to with a gesture.

If that gets introduced, then probably only for weapon seating as there are no NPC SRV drivers and never had been. FDEV likely forego them in Horizons and would probably shirk around creating them in Odyssey. The pathfinding AI is very thread/CPU intensive which is why there are large FPS drops on foot CZs.

In fact, the AI is already able to control my Krait MK II very well while I'm flying a fighter. I don't think the code to implement this will be very complicated for FDev.

And taking advantage... I would love to be able to see my AI npc sitting next to me in the seats of my ship. This could open the door to very deep and interesting mechanics, for example:

Imagine having a Role system (for points assignable to your NPC):

  • flying ability
  • weapon use skill
  • scanner usage skill
  • surface weapons usage skill

Points are earned through use and can be assigned to your npc to upgrade it. The npc could be a fantastic helper on long solitary journeys across the galaxy.

Dreaming costs nothing.

The AI is doing badly in the close proximity of planet surface and even asteroids. I see implementing driving around obstacles and especially using SRV thrusters as more challenging task. Even on-foot NPC don't use jetpacks.

I would not like setting some artificial XP points as one does in many RPGs around. It would be (imo) better if skill of NPC crew grew based on the activity they were assigned to - piloting SLF/SRV, firing turrets and possible other activities. Currently there is only one (combat) rank, but it could be extended to a set of in-game professions. It would be though acceptable if having certain rank could unlock features which were not accessible before.

It would be nice if all the NPCs player is hiring were manageable via same UI and cost according to their skills - both ship and carriers crew.
