Let's Fix: SCBs

Is that a bad thing? ;)

Yes IMO.

It may be good for commanders on smaller ship, but there is a great number of commanders that prefer the big ships (me among them), that would feel it is a step in the wrong direction...

Smaller ships already have the advantage of speed and agility, so reducing the advantage of shields on the bigger ships doesn't sound as a fair thing...

In my opinion, changing the SBCs or Boosters should require a deeper overhaul, probably touching weapons damage too. I think developers have better things to focus at the current time, for example, addig new gameplay content and new mechanics that are fun, and not a grind...

Massive shields on big ships can’t save you from bad flying and terrible decision making. What you big ship guys are really saying is ‘Don’t take away my training wheels!’

It would not be doomsday if SCBs, or any other defensive measures, got pulled back.

The problem with the big ships is that their base shield and base armor are to low for their size. This is just to make NPCs easy victims.
Give ships propper stats and remove the add ons.

Let's not. The big ships are intended to be very difficult for medium/small ships to take down. They have multiple dedicated slots specifically for military components: hull/module armor and/or -SCBs-. Bigger shields too. They are expensive to build and require (usually) more engineering.

With equal skill levels, you should need a big ship to take down a big ship in one-on-one combat. However, if you were to wing up with a couple of buddies in decently engineered ships, it should and would be toast.

You have that backwards: a pilot in a medium/small vessel going after big ships who're safely tucked behind a shield pool that makes them impervious to a sustained barrage of fire for a period that can be measured in tens of minutes is a pretty solid definition of "skill." On the other hand, people flying behind a shield wall are the opposite.
Yet there are weapons that can take those massive shields out in seconds, also if you're in a smaller ship pick your fights or team up to take on more powerful vessels. A tank and a humvee aren't in equal footing lol.

Agreed.

Not truth. Big ships are meant to be big, expensive, less agile than smaller ones and more powerful.

If you nerf their current shield power, or SBCs, or boosters, you decrease one of their main abilities over the rest of the ship types, and that doesn't sound like balancing...

It is like asking to nerf the current speed and maneuverability of the smaller ships, which would implicitly break the current balance of ship stats. If this kind of re-balance actions are not accompanied by other adjustments, you get to favor some ship types while affecting others, and that is never a good solution...

Players tend to look at things from their own perspective, but from a development point, you can never get to boost or nerf a thing without carefully checking what other things would be affected by the change...

Agreed. That would be a possible step in the good direction, specially if the intention is to nerf the SCBs...

I don't mean any hostilities or offence by this;

But didn't you recently take out a Cutter in a Viper, while taking fire from other ships and pretty much succeed?

Someone else bullied a Corvette owner (admittedly they didn't seem to know what they were doing as much as you Pro-Pilots but still) in a Sidewinder just recently...

Personally I don't think small ships should have an easier time against larger ships than that, it's comparable to a Humvee taking on a tank. Excellent piloting has been proven to be able to take on lesser skilled pilots in larger and tankier ships. So you're looking for insta-kill? Group ganking would be made even easier.

16 seconds is enough to annihilate modules, even with 3 MRPs (need some HRPs), even annihilate hull. There would be zero point in SCBs if they could only be used as a bandage instead of a preventative.

For what it's worth, I PVE only, I prefer Medium ships and don't prioritise use of SCBs. I own a Cutter, a Corvette, and I've used SCBs of course, hell I have one on my Chiefy as a pure backup incase things get hairy.
I'm just airing my opinion on how this will affect everyone, from my perspective.

If bigger ships with bigger shields are the issue, (this is something I was thinking about recently, hearing all the polava everywhere) then simply make the boosts they receive from Boosters and SCBs diminish the higher the size, small ships still have protection they need, bigger ships aren't as OP.
However, it's already been shown how little these mean to experienced pilots with the right tools, so.

I just get the impression that things like this are because PVPers want quicker and easier kills, are fed up of their prey running or taking too long to kill etc. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I mean, you can't synthesise SCB ammo, so they're gonna run out sooner or later, if they've got more then they've opted for Shield Tanking instead and will be pretty much royally fluffed when their Shield drops.

What about some extra ability of a KWS to display how much Countermeasures your opponent has, like Chaff/HS and SBC ammo and sizes? That way it's not a guessing game for a viable Hunter, and you can plan your tactics and strategy accordingly.

This gave me a good chuckle and I was thinking the same thing after watching the OP kill a deadly ranked Cutter in a wing with his Viper IV and the recent Sidey/Corvette video.
I almost hate to say this, but with the recent requests to nerf reverse thrusting and now SCBs, it seems some commanders want an "I win" button against big ships.
I also noticed the OP conspicuously ignored your observations.

I'm of the opinion that the current implementation of SCBs is unsatisfying. It's frustrating to watch your progress against someone's shield get erased over and over again. Since you can't even see their SCB ammo going down, it makes fights feel like an endless slog. Because of feedback cascade, SCBs are of questionably utility the slower ship in a given PvP engagement, giving a substantial advantage to the already-advantaged faster ship (they can out-range the opponent's feedback rails and bank tank, while their opponent can't do the same). They annoying, and exist in a knife's-edge state of either being too strong in a given fight, or almost useless.

As such, I challenge you, no, US, to come up with better implementations. I'm not talking about just tweaking numbers here- I'm talking alternate implementations. If you come up with an idea and like it, make sure to ALSO POST IT IN THE SUGGESTIONS FORUM so the devs see it. Include a link to the post here if you do, so other people can find it. If you like someone else's idea, make sure to ACTUALLY COMMENT ON IT IN THE SUGGESTIONS FORUM, TOO. Rep does nothing to increase visibility; only comments will help the idea get seen by the devs. To get things started, I'll leave you with the idea I just posted:

So.. we'll go from Shields/SCB/SCB/SCB wake to; Shields...;Wake. !

It'll save me some time and ammo the next time I'm running punished Mobius out of the area at least. Fighting vettes and cutters isn't difficult or fun, it's just a tedious slog.

I’m a combat pilot - PvP or PvE.

Technically, one has to do pve to be any way effective at pvp which makes that a good answer...my question was rhetorical however as I already knew the answer. This is all about making the bigger ships easier to kill...which ye can have but itll make open a bit quieter...it would kill it entirely fer me so by all means, continue with yer crusade cos all yer doing is cutting yer nose off to spite yer face.

Its wanting to force players into gitting gudder by taking away the training wheels...but the training wheels are there fer a reason. It makes big ships harder to kill...thats not really a pve concern here...thats a pvp concern as proven by reading through the comments ^

In my wing it’s SOP to save big ships till last. If we’ve killed or run off their buddies they are usually high waking by that point anyway because their side has lost. If we’re looking to kill big ships specifically we’re hunting lone wolves and stragglers or bringing dedicated torpedo boats with appropriate supporting loadouts (whaling, as I’ve heard some call it). So, no, it’s not about making the bigger ships easier to kill per se.

It’s about making fights more dynamic, interesting, and full of risk for all participants involved. SCBs are one piece of that puzzle.

Frankly, under Fren’s system properly kitted big ships flown skillfully would be even harder to kill - but equally skilled opposition could capitalize on the limited opportunity provided by their shields collapsing. You might have a real fight. Not unlike a boss fight in other games.

And before you say anything, this is sounding very good for PvP and PvE. Maybe not so much for credit farmers, but who cares about guys amirite?

Oh there is a concerted effort going on here by the OP, who has posted on three different Things so far, to hobble the big ships. OP claims to be a non-PvP'er, and obviously does their research before posting.

But there is definitely a theme going on with the OP's posts, and it's all down to the big ships. Nerf their flight model, nerf their shields, and now it's nerf SCB's.

Just waiting for the next episode in this exciting series.

Removing a poor game mechanic does not make big ships weaker. They can be as strong as FD want them to be.
What removing SCBs does, is to remove the the advantage of dose that have no need for other types of internal compartments.
Same goes for HRPs and MRPs.
If these three were removed or more realistically made military slots only, it would greatly reduce the enormous DPS gap between pure combat and multi-role.

It's the pure combat builds in ED that needs nerfing. This goes for PvP and PvE. Multi-roles are more or less fine as they are.

A good balance pass would make traders stronger, keep multies as is and nerf combat builds.
