Let's play: Choose only 4 DLCs

As the title says, in a situation in which you can only buy 4 DLCs of the packs released since the game's launch, which do you buy?

Just a reminder, the 13 DLCs are:
  • Deluxe
  • Arctic
  • South America

  • Europe
  • Wetlands

  • Grasslands

So which 4 do you choose and why? Feel free to write a wall of text

Haha sorry to some members of the community. Its mainly based on the animals in each one... North America is pretty decent representation of the continent. Southeast Asia is pretty cool for how niche it is actually. I can't think of a single other zoo game with dholes and Babirusas available! Twilight I like the color variants. Grasslands is my personal favorite.

Only 4? Alright so:

First up would be north America. North America is still my favourite pack with the best choice of animals in any pack. The main animals I love in this pack would be arctic fox, cougar, and alligators. Out of all the big cats, the cougar has got to be the most commonly seen in my zoos despite me actually liking the snow leopard more irl. Ironically I have a fear of cougars 🤣

Now second place would be a battle between grasslands and wetlands but I'm gonna go with wetlands solely because of the ASCO. The squeaky little otter is one of my personal favourites to see at one of my local zoos. Sorry capybara, otter is the highlight of the pack!

Third place, well let's go with Australia. I don't need to explain that the Australia pack is basically the only way to build an Australian area with some great choices. Add on very essential construction pieces like the metal walls, metal beams and wooden custom signs makes it one of the best scenery packs despite being disappointed that the wallaby or Tasmanian devil didn't make an appearance

Fourth place is Africa. Meerkat, white rhino and African penguins? Yes please! The animals found in this pack are quite essential for making a realistic African zone as who makes an African zone without meerkats? I couldn't care less about the construction pieces although handy for making Spanish themes rather than north African like it was actually intended for

That's actually a really good selection. Shame for the giant otter though.

OMG such a hard game

I think...

Australia (i love the building set and the foliage)
South America (i can't pass on the jaguar and the giant anteater)
Grasslands (complements both SA and Australia so well)
Aquatic (new mechanics and very useful pieces... i just wish the capybara was in this one)

Just four is so few D: I need Africa as well in that list.

I need 5! But if I had to choose it would be:

Europe and africa for the Building pieces that I use frequently. I also love the animals that came with africa pack.

And for the animals South east Asia pack and grasslands. But would also miss Australia pack.

As someone who mainly builds zoos based in Australia, the first and foremost choice for me has got to be the Australia Pack. This is the only DLC we've ever gotten where every single species included is kept in Australian zoos (as expected), and not only that, each is very commonly kept and arguably essential for building a zoo here. Combine this with some fantastic and essential foliage (such as the game's only Australian eucalypts) as well as great scenery pieces (all that metal mmmm) and it easily tops the list as the most essential pack for me.

Next up comes the Africa Pack, which is just a fantastic pack all around. The meerkat, fennec fox and southern white rhinoceros are all great and essential species that I include in the majority of my zoos, but I also really love the foliage in this pack as someone who's a big fan of deserts, scrublands and xeric environments in general. The new plaster pieces that come with this pack are very useful and versatile, but the wood pieces arguably steal the show for me - they're my default choice when it comes to creating structural supports on buildings and such.

Third would of course have to be the Grasslands Animal Pack, which seems to follow the trend of the obvious three packs here all being themed around drier biomes. The species selection in this pack is just so strong, with the wallaby, emu, maned wolf and caracal all being particularly important to the kind of zoos I build. Plus, those butterflies!

The fourth pack here was actually surprisingly hard to choose, with me considering the Southeast Asia Animal Pack for a while, but in the end I went for what is also my fourth favourite DLC, the Wetlands Animal Pack. The capybara, platypus, Asian small-clawed otter and water buffalo are the standouts from this pack for me, but I also just like its whole vibe. Shame it comes with no music though!

Tragically this list does not encompass my favourite animal in the game, the common wombat, but the rest of the Twilight Pack wasn't strong enough for me to place it over any of the other packs in this list (although the bats are also a huge draw).

Grasslands because wallaby and emu are critical for an Australian zoo.

Africa because meerkats are critical for any zoo and the build set is great.

Australia and SA because they were both so badly represented in the base game and the build pieces and foliage for Australia are great and the bamboo from the SA pack is super useful.

Quite hard for me, since each pack has some animals that I really wanted...but:

Grasslands - I really think the animal roster is really awesome with this one. Also, foxes on stilts.
Aquatic - Even if I think the animals themselves have better alternatives now, they are still one of the best made animals. And I cannot skip on those artificial rocks and trees, they are worth it alone for me.
North America - I really, really like Sea lions, but the animal roster in this one was just perfect too.
Last one is hard, I need to decide between Wetlands and South America...I think I am choosing the South America, just because I like SA animals so much, but man, I would miss the Capybara...

Overall, I enjoy warmer climate animals more (what can i say, I am a summer person), so close to these would be SEA, Africa and Australia...But it paints a nice picture that each and every DLC is very needed for us hardcore players haha.

South America: For the bamboo pieces alone I would choose this pack, but the rest of the scenery pieces are great, and the animal selection is good.
North America: An easy choice for me, as it's hands-down my favorite pack. The animal quality is superb, and the choices are near-flawless.
Wetlands: This is a very biodiverse pack, with every continent except Antarctica getting at least one new addition. It has some of my favorite animals in the entire game.
Grasslands: Is it obvious I like animal packs? This one made a very strong first impression, and every animal is beautifully made.

The first three are very easy for me. Australia, North America and Africa. For me, these are three essential packs.

The fourth one is sooo difficult because it means not getting some of my other animal wants otherwise. There's some I absolutely love for the scenery pieces and in a straight ranking I would put above some of the other choices, but when we're talking about not having it at all, it's a different story. I think....in the end I have to go with animals though so I choose the Wetlands pack. I'm so sorry Wombat and Penguin! 😭

Oooh a tough game. I’m gonna go with:

Twilight Pack - my two most used animals ever since this pack came out have been the Striped Skunk and Fruit Bat! They are two animals I love to see at the zoo. Plus I absolutely LOVE anything spooky. This pack was always going to be an instant buy for me for these two animals and the themes alone. Controversial first pick I know, but I personally couldn’t do without it!

Africa Pack - this animal selection too really appealed to me. The White Rhino, Meerkat and African Penguin are three animals that I use in the majority of my builds (penguin and meerkat in EVERY one), and the Fennec Fox definitely has its place in some of my zoos. The scenery, despite the theming of some of the statues, is great and versatile and fills a niche. And the Drinn Grass is not to be understated!!!

Grasslands Animal Pack - despite my initial reservations to this theme, the animal roster has really proved me wrong. Every single animal has a place in at least one of my zoos, and the butterflies are an absolute game changer! This is one of the most diverse rosters of all the packs, with some underrepresented regions (South America, Middle East, Oceania) getting a great boost. Definitely has quickly won its way into my top four spot!

North America Animal Pack - any pack with a California Sea Lion is bound to automatically appeal to me. Although at first I was disappointed with the lack of striped skunk and raccoon, I was quickly won over by this pack’s incredibly diverse lineup. The Sea Lion, Alligator, Beaver and Moose were real game changers for me; it scratched the temperate itch that I really needed!

Close runners up: All of them! Tbh, I’ve loved every pack so far. Each one has been a great addition to the game!!!
