I think other River otters are not necessary as we have our ASCO. Giant otters are on a whole different level
So therefore the thing we are missing is Sea Otters.
Here’s my thoughts, suggestions and things about sea otters.
Southern Sea Otters could fit in really well.
Give them a kelp enrichment and maybe an underwater foraging rock shelf.
Females are lovely and cute, I could see a group of 5 per habitat, in the wild sea otters form “rafts” of multiple members of the same sex and sometimes hold hands as they sleep. Sea otters can spend their entire lives in the water so they won’t have much land requirements, probably enough for the keeper to get in and feed them.
Many Northern sea otters in captivity are rescued as pups when they are either stranded or abandoned, many of which end up at the Alaska Sealife Center after being rescued, in time they will be sent to other facilities for future care. Pups have so much to learn from their mothers that we cannot teach them therefore pups are non releasable. Northern sea otters usually weigh up to 100lbs and eat 25% of their body weight every day which includes clams, mussels, octopus and many things we pay too dollar for. Therefore the northerns cost more to take care of. I’m not as familiar with southern sea otters but I believe they are more manageable.
while this is just a game and some viscous nature of animals is ignored, male sea otters are monsters and should never go near females or seals. Feel free to look it up!
