News Let's talk about Gnosis and the Cone Sector

I have no idea for the life of me why everyone is so upset.

Okay, the Galnet article was bad. The Fines issued in defence of the ship was an utter failure on Frontier's part.

However, they are the only two serious things that went wrong.

Aegis (Frontier) got into contact with Canonn through (presumably) Discord, and they asked if they still wanted to try to jump into a Locked Permit Sector.

Canonn Council said, in not so many words, stuff Aegis, we'll jump ANYWAY. They told the entire community they would still be jumping into the Locked Permit Sector - all the while the Eagle Eye network identified the Gnosis as something the Thargoids will attack within the same week.

As soon as it would have jumped it would have gotten ripped out of Witchspace - but despite all the warnings, and all their scientific knoweldge of Thargoids, Canonn thought they'd try their luck and thought that they, somehow, despite all the odds because they are one of the most famous player groups, could do it, and they carried everyone's hopes with them... into the adjacent system.

I feel for everyone, but as far as the Lore is concerned (RP), they were never going to make it to the Cone sector.

Don't be so hard on Frontier - if they had let the Gnosis jump that far and so deep, everyone would be questioning how the Thargoids let it happen (or at least, they should question).

The Replicated Man

Question I have is: Why didn't you inform the community that It was against lore and you had no plans on sending us there sooner? Why create all this hype, and then just give us some silly thargoid sidestory?

Hydra is relatively new content. But sure you wanted special content that FD is definitely hiding in those locked systems.

How stupid that argument can become? You hyped yourself, you face the cost. No, actually, we all do, because FD will be more guarded with this stuff than ever because people need to be threated like kids.

Its not new. Its a reskinned enemy.

Don't be obtuse.

Same idea.
Same guns.
Same concept.
Just more hearts and health

For me the idea with attack was great, but it was poorly made with shallow "story" and huge amount of bugs in every aspect of this event. People get fines for protecting station and station shoot players instead Thargoids... This make me laugh since the morning and I can't stop everytime I'm thinking about it :D

Agreed. The NFZ issue? Bad, and FD has admitted as such. Same for GalNet.

But this whole "I wanted to go to Cone Sector" malarkey?

That's over-reacting. I didn't go on the Gnosis for two reasons:

1. I hate Canonn with a passion.

2. There were so many hints that anyone who didn't see a Thargoid attack coming, should seriously consider taking an evening course at college on comprehensive reading. It was that obvious.

Me? My gameplay is totally unaffected. I'm still gonna' log in tonight, I'm still gonna' do missions, and dare I say that I'm still gonna' have fun.

Screw me, right?

Regardless of whether you hate Canonn or not, can you at least see why this is a disappointment to a lot of people that are not Canonn? had exactly what happened, happened well into the 'forbidden zone', leaving me trapped on the Gnosis, I was expecting. I'm geared for anti-thargoid. I was looking forward to the possibility that we'd be in hostile space, with no way back, anything new. This is not new, this is someone in a suit and tie with their head up their making poor choices. I know you and I butted heads earlier when you said you were coming after us, but I also geared for THAT (I was quite disappointed to find out you're not on my platform btw) because I was looking forward to that ineraction. Now, phht. I guess I just jump back to my old dock or just play some other game . I'm glad you're gameplay isn't affected. Mine was. oh well.

I am not as upset as I initially was, since my vessel is on board and ready to fight the bugs..

You guys need to make Thargoids a real threat, and give them a non-gated presence in this game. Until then your narrative and story are just background noise that is 100% ignorable and optional. I shouldn't be able to fly into a system that's "under attack" and witness zero attacks and have no problems. No thargoids in supercruise, at stations, near planets, or anywhere.

They have just done what you suggested, as well as the GNOSIS 2 stations are also under attack.

You have what you asked for and then go on to complain about it.

Sure.

I understand why you feel it's disappointing. I can only really echo what's said in the first post. Ultimately the location was locked off, it was never intended or ready to be explored. After the Gnosis set its sights on that location and the beginnings of some emergent community event started there was a decision. The decision was made instead of saying no and close off the loophole, and have this considered "god modding" in some way, to instead weave it into the actual narrative and have the Gnosis involved in the reveal of the newest Thargoid threat. I do appreciate that having the article go live early and people having a few hours without context means that it was less than positive. Add to this some bugs which hampered peoples involvement in it and I can understand the disappointment.

Should we simply have said "no" and closed off the system? That's an interesting debate. Historically we've seen a lot of negative reception to actions like that. It's certainly the easier option rather than trying to react to the event, make new content and so on.

I read this and I'm baffled.

Do you really not understand what all the players are saying in this megathread? Or is this just part of a containment mode routine?

The fact that there's a RL limitation (accessing a part of the game world) hidden behind a narrative reason (the Thargoids always attack when you try to go there) is THE VERY ESSENCE OF GOD MODDING. Except it's DISHONEST GOD MODDING.

Also, Frontier, why on Earth do you try to force players to just fight? Elite should be about so much more than this! A lot of explorers went to the Gnosis hoping they would finally discover something new. WHY are you so keen on that everyone must fight? This is so disappointing for people who don't want to take part in this nonsense.

What's next? Are you planning to do the same to stations in the bubble? So if we're so unfortunate, we won't even be able to leave the stations and just die? What on Earth have you been thinking, honestly? The in-game lore is one thing but don't act like it was real life because yes, we know anything can happen in life and it's not always fair. But this is a game and you have a player base who would like to spend their free time in your game. Why are you screwing them over? I appreciate that the setting and the presentation of this new situation is, again, great and quite atmospheric. But this was a journey many planned for, and waited for this day. And now they log in and find themselves stranded and attacked and they can't explore and can't do anything, they may not even be able to leave the Gnosis intact. Just because you push this Thargoid war down our throats.

Now you don't even let us choose what to do in the game? Will this end up in forced combat wherever we go? I'm sure there are players who enjoy this little surprise but I'm also sure the majority don't. They were deceived and this is not what they prepared their ships for. It's a disappointment for them and I can't help but feel even a fair bit of cynicism about how you planned out and organized this event. I think this has crossed the fourth wall and it's about more than just lore now. It's about people potentially losing trust in the game and not signing up for anything like this in the future.

And no I'm not "threatening" to leave the game - I won't. I still love this game. But I'm sure as hell I won't sign up for anything like this. I'll go on my own if I really have to see something.

Nobody has lied. They jumped as planned, there were unexpected circumstances. People were warned again and again there could be issues. Canonn themselves didn't know if the jump would actually succeed. There were reports of thargoid activity. I am not sure what else they could do except completely destroy what they had planned which was a surprsied attack.

Sorry I disagree. If FD had stated "we don't know why Cannon have suggested this system because 'Oh Dear!' this region even though it's been shown as an unlocked region for four years, it really is permit locked, so Gnosis won't be going there."

Even when it was permit locked at the last update & questions were asked, the FD response was basically "yes we know, watch the skies" When they should have said "yes, we forgot to tell you that you can't go in that region, that's for later in the game, sorry guys"

So what would be the purpose of lying about it. What you it have achieved as the update is FREE. Oh more sales of a free update. Yeah, that works... oh wait.

People really need to think about what they write as some of it is utter lunacy.

madness you say? hmm ... I'll tell you what is insane.
madness will now be the purchase of paintjobs and kits in the frontierstore. that's what it is, real, not a clouded madness.

So then to put a point on it the entire exploration part of the "event" was nothing more than a troll? You really let thousands of commanders plan for, work for and believe we were jumping into unknown space with zero intent of allowing that? Please clarify this as MANY of my viewers are extremely upset over this entire debacle.

~Exigeous

Most of us knew it would end like this, I just went for curiosity sake and maybe spot a Hydra.

They do it every time, sit back and watch - while dropping ambiguous hints in social media/forums. Fanning the flames of speculation. What did you think, the community would think? Chapter 3 just released (which is supposed to narrative focused) galnet articles,
them dropping hints in the forum, social media and constantly banging on about player driven narrative.

Fdev need to clarify if any of these permits can actually be attained, at this time through in game actions. Just a yes or no, that is all. I'm totally cool with either answer.

Who says The Gnosis isn't in hostile territory?

And just be realistic for a moment...

If y'all really were trapped, do you really think there'd be no complaints? I mean it would mean y'all would be locked outta' the rest of the game...

Take off those rose-tinted glasses.

^ this... but not just Thargoids - ED has been on copy / paste cruise control for too long now! This is either down to a lack of resources (100 people really?) or poor leadership. It saddens me to say that, but for me the Krait highlighted how noticeable new stuff with actual effort applied really makes. I honestly feel that the game needs new blood. If anything positive comes out of this, it’s that people are making it known that the game they love needs to be more than maintained = it needs to grow!

Well. I don't know what to say in regards to all this really. I am really annoyed that we didn't get to make this "Historical" jump. On the same token though I got nuked by Gnosis for defending her and lost my ship 17.5 mill rebuy. Exploration data and cargo. Lodged a ticket 15 minutes ago and was reimburse completely already... I know they are going into damage control but that's some seriously quick response work.

I am really annoyed about the jump. Easily 12 hours playing to get my Conda up to scratch for exploration and bug killing and all I'm getting is bug killing. As an explorer I was excited by the clamor for finding the unxeplored. Everyone was in on it and for all the explorers out there it's like a bag of chips was thrown for the Griefers and thargoids. Fun for 40% of the people attending the event and a frustration for the explorers. Maybe next time hey FD

Hi Zac - we have taken the difficult decision (that in light of this weeks events) to allow any members of the team that feel so inclined to join us here at the Rage Quitters Union. All you have to do is post your reason for leaving. Also, if you could let us know who leaked the Galnet post we would like to give them automatic entry.

Aegis (Frontier) got into contact with Canonn through (presumably) Discord, and they asked if they still wanted to try to jump into a Locked Permit Sector.

Canonn Council said, in not so many words, stuff Aegis, we'll jump ANYWAY. They told the entire community they would still be jumping into the Locked Permit Sector

This is a misrepresentation, because there was no actual permit lock, which is why Canonn probably wanted to go there in the first place, thinking it possibly had something interesting to be explored.

so if i fire at the station they will put me in jail back in the bubble?

saves me the 2 days it took to get there, and then i can at least be closer to the next dissapointing incident rather than 1500 light years away for a week.

Hey Rainbro,

Just to clarify from the post above.

The area of space (Cone sector) that the Gnosis was aiming to jump to was never a location that was able to jump to. This is because the location is specifically meant to be used for future narrative. That's the reason why the initiative from the community was weaved into the actual lore of the game.

Thanks,

Zac

Absolutely disgusting behavior. You even said on stream there would be 3 systems to explore.

You guys don't deserve any bits of respect and your community.
