Newcomer / Intro LHS 3447 start: where to from here?

I've started a new game in LHS 3447 and made a small little fortune in the Eravate system - by following the missions provided and consolidating Federation outposts in the vicinity of this star. But I'm bored with the entire area and the missions keep repeating the same theme. I'm still interested in trading and lucrative deals as I want some further upgrades on my Adder. So where would you go from here?

Up, down, left, right, forwards, backwards.... the choice is yours!

Loads of people do sightseeing and pick out things they'd love to see (such as the Messier objects) while others just meander aimlessly and others go right out as far as they can to see if they can get any first discovered credits to their name....

The galaxy's bigger than big... use it :)

I'd give Lave a miss, griefer city if the forums are anything to go on.
I left LHS3447 and moved a little to Eravate did missions out of there for a while then the Sol permit came up so I moved to sol, made a good amount of money running cargo and bounty hunting around there for a month or so.
Get a Cobra and run Superconductors from Sol to Saktsak and Combat stabilisers back to Sol. 90,000 cred round trip and its only 2 jumps either way.

If I was you I'd look up Rare Commodity trading on the forums and take it from there ... you'll be moving your Adder out to buy a Cobra in no time at all :)

Fly safe ...

I started to use a trader tool for a while called eddb when I had initially migrated to systems just beyond Eravate, and then eddb introduced multi-hop route finders, and it changed my (in-game) life. Suddenly I had a six-hopper that went all over the place. This meant I had a reason to discover 4 or 5 new systems. My trading Adder suddenly became a little more of an explorer Adder (I had always wanted to do exploring). Having run the multi-hop tool a few times, and visted perhaps 25 completely new and (to me) random places, if finally found a mini-loop. I was a long way from the starting systems, and from places like Sol. I made a 'home' in the backwaters and earned a crust doing the mini-loop. I bought a Cobra for RES fighting. I bought another to build as a long-range explorer.

What I am trying to say is, eddb gave me a reason to go to new places. I didn't have to guess or take Lucky dip. So, that might be a way to find a new 'home'. Whack in your starting address in the multi-hop, and just follow what it says for a while, until you find a system you feel comfortable in.

Everyone should try Rares trading at least once.
If you are looking for a new base, I recommend using the Galaxy Map to find a High Tech, Hi Population system. You will be needing somewhere to purchase all these new toys.

If you still in a small ship try a spot of mining. The belts at LHS3447 are quite good and give a decent amount of precious metals. Good way to earning some cash and tighten the pilot skills.

The problem with posting a good trading spot in the forum is that you will make it a worse trading spot because of it. People will come and drain supplies, satisfying demand, nullifying price gaps. So, you won't ever find a great trading place here on the forums. Good trading spots need to be kept secret. And that's why an instruction how to find one is more valuable than a system info.

The Galaxy is yours...Just be sure to pack your imagination.

Elite has always been the ultimate sandbox.

That is it's greatest asset for some and biggest liability for others.

People who used to play Elite classic 30 years ago "get it".

Elite is more like Flight Simulator than say Wing Commander.

You are not a hero, you are not the top ace in the Galactic Navy. There is no endgame, and no "winning".

The joy is in the journey. Frontier has provided the environment and the game engine. You provide the context.

With sweaty hands I had approached Lave Station. I had just moved there from LHS-3447 and here I was about to break the law.

I had not 90 minutes earlier accepted three separate contracts to pick up black boxes and rebel communications. Although I knew this would help my benefactors and line my wallets, this was a covert mission. The cops were not in on this. If I got caught, Lave would simply disavow all knowledge of my existence.

I sat 10 clicks outside Lave and powered down everything but my life support systems and scanners. I put on my coat and my teeth began to chatter.. Covert docking always was brutally cold, but necessary. If I was going to enter the station without being scanned I would have rig for silent running. And to be able to make it in prior to deadly heat build up, I needed my ship cold as a tomb.

I watch as the frost formed on my windshield. I momentarily turned on my scanners and got docking clearance. The timer was now ticking. I looked at my contacts and saw the police a couple of clicks ahead of me, but they hadn't detected me....so far so good. I powered down the scanners and immediately turned on my thrusters and closed the heat vents. It was go time.

I throttled up and made a dash for the docking bay.....20%.....30%....40%.....getting closer......some minor course adjustment....50%....60%....almost there.....70%....This was going to be close....I crossed the threshold to the bay with 80% heat build up. I immediately opened the heat vents and vented my excess heat into the station interior..... I had made it. I then just slowly ambled over to my landing pad and set down like I belonged there.

Move along...nothing to see. My contacts unloaded my ship and paid me my contract. I had done Lave a tremendous service, and better yet avoided getting fined or worse having a bounty on my head.

Time to Load up on some Lavian Brandy and sell it way off system for some tidy cash. Maybe I'll buy some computers for Riedquat...They always seem to need computers....

thank you all for your contributions.

i need the credits only for those expensive scanners required for proper exploring. basically, I'm touring the systems (without the scoop and the surface scanner), making some profit on the side. and while doing this, I'm getting nice ideas for future exploration voyages. for example, I'm closing in on Arcturus and realised that I could visit the larger stars and other rare objects and whatever is along the way to these objectives. I'm basically making my own goals, as soon as I find something interestin. this is the only reason I've been doing so many trade runs lately. however, at 5-10k profit per station docking, I'm earning too little too slow to get to where I want to be. my long term plan is to cross most of the galaxy with as little stops as possible and make a living out of selling the exploration data i gather along the way.

so far, from the ideas above, I will definitely try to go trading, albeit slowly, towards the edge of the galaxy. the idea of a large profit margin is enticing. I don't like using the rare items runs, as my ship has limited cargo capacity. but, as I renounce the extra cargo modules for the advanced surfer scanner and later for the scoop, my cargo capacity will be even smaller than now and I still need to find new ways of earning money, apart from exploration.

as for other tools suggested, eddb is definitely a cool project, but after a few trade runs, you kind of get the hang of what items you might sell at what stations. you also learn the profit margin per ton of cargo and you can find lucrative trade loops for yourselves with the added reward of doing the research and reading through the station descriptions - which also helps you figure out some political exploits you might try in order to stabilise/de-stabilise the area, depending on what you want to achieve.
