life is unfair (and a request to Frontier)

Sorry to hear your news - but all the best with the treatment and recovery.

When I see a Viper - I will give it a wave.

So sorry to hear about your illness. Ironically my wife has been diagnosed with the same thing just this morning, so I know this is slim consollation to you but ED will be shelved for me too for the forseeable future ;-)

My thoughts go out to you and your wife, and I hope your wife has a speedy recovery. Leukaemia is a cruel illness, but with the support of friends and family it becomes easier to deal with.

Be strong!

Hi all

Life has been pretty rubbish lately, last week I discovered I had leukaemia and I am stuck in hospital for a few months blasting my bone marrow. What's worse, I can't play my beloved Elite. I can't stand the thought of my Sidewinder gathering dust in Beagle 2 Landing.

Now, I'm a big fan of the Viper and it would really, really cheer me up if for the next peek or newsletter you could show it off.

Pretty please?

Thanks

Paul

I hope you manage to see it off - best of luck and God bless.

Thank you for that - it means a lot especially at the moment when we're still a bit bewildered to what's going on ;-)

That will change in time, the docs will want to start therapy as soon as possible, and sort out any infections as well. At some point a haemotologist will sit down with you and give you the breakdown. It's a lot to take in as the treatment lasts months (in several cycles) so you have to be a good organiser!

If you need any support or just want to talk, PM me. As long as the hospital WI-FI holds up I'm here.

Again thank you so much for your kind words and thoughts. My wife starts her treatment tomorrow. Fortunately we are a very close family and have many good friends for which we are very grateful. I'd like to reciprocate your kindness and likewise please feel free to pm or email me at any time (even if it's only to talk about ED ;) ). The wifi here is pretty touch and go too, so don't worry if you don't get an immediate response! Take care and thanks again

I'm sorry to hear of your illness but this is not the place to post personal issues. This is the Elite: Dangerous General category. If you want to post something to get some sympathy, can I suggest that you request a 'I want some sympathy' category.

Lots of people are doing this sort of thing lately and I think the mods should clamp down on it.

Yes, life is unfair and I have had my fair share of upsets and tragedies in my life but I don't start new threads about it because these forums are about the game.

Doesn't sound like you're sorry to hear it. Maybe it isn't the place for posting about personal issues but it's already done and most of your response reads like you just wanted to kick the guy when he's down.

Bit unfair dude.

I'd offer that we're a group of like minded people discussing something we are all passionate about. Also potentially a group of friends.

When I'm with a group of like minded people I sometimes if not frequently talk about things going on in my life, just to catch up or share.

Paul isn't hurting anyone by mentioning what's happening, and nobody forced anybody to read this thread.

I'd suggest perhaps we live and let live and move on?

Just my opinion for whatever it's worth.

Ok guys keep it nice, i think we can all sympathise with the OP and hope all goes well in the future for him.
Obviously his health will be his main priority, but missing the game i can totally get, i hope you get your wish that you ask for with a viper in the sneak peeks :)

Hi Paul,

i can only agree with the predecessing posts. It's terrible news and i can hardly imagine what you are just going through (tbh i really can't).

In my profession i meet many people suffering from all kinds of cancer, but all the time i encounter many of them again, years after their treatment. So i have good reason to trust that we'll meet in space in a while and if not then only because the milky way is such a tremendously huge place.

Best wishes, hope you recover quickly.

Gute Besserung!

Kinda puts things into perspective really. Hope things go well for you bro and best wishes on your recovery and treatment. I'll be ready and waiting to pwn you in your sidewinder with some missiles when you get back in game :D:p

I do hope you make a full recovery. It would be nice for a few of the AI to sport custom decals to promote awareness of some of these things like a bright red nose for comic relief or pink viper for breast cancer awareness day or a poppy for veterans etc - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_awareness_ribbons for some colour designs (maybe some of their Orca ships should be purple) - I like the puzzle motif.

They may let you have an orange sidewinder as that is the colour for Leukaemia - at least Lave Radio are supporting you even though they didn't realise it at the time :)

PS Put a GB sticker on your car - to remind people to Give Blood :)

PPS Hope there are a few people on here that donate blood and those that do may wish to consider putting themselves on the bone marrow donation list as well - after shooting down so many in game, it would be nice to say that you helped to save a life.
