General / Off-Topic Life on the border!

Not as exiting as it sounds....

I currently work at Tesco, on grocery click & collect. It's a pretty easy job. Waiting in the car park for customers to eventually show up(turns out people here don't own a clock of any kind). My manager said its pretty dull sometimes so bring your own entertainment. I assume he meant a book or tablet.... I chose a laptop. Lol
So I get to sit playing games most of the day. I used to play offline games, like Skyrim, xcom, etc. Then I got bored.
So I tried online games, Arma 2, and now ED!
Only problem was, the tesco free WiFi, was either too slow, or just out of range.
So I brought a WiFi dongle thing with an antenna, problem solved? No, not quite. Life on this border isn't that great!
Tescos WiFi was still too slow, and unreliable. So...
My Nexus 5 can tether its 3G/4G connection.
Currently, with tesco mobile, I get about 4Gb of data a month. And for a while, things were good. Arma 2 sometimes used all of that. But ED never did. However, recently, my tether speed seemed to drop significantly, from 6-16Mb/s, allllll the way down to 2KB/S! On top of that, I lose signal constantly on leaving my town. Which is useless for when I do dotcom deliveries!
So I made the switch to EE. I only get 2GB a month for the same price, but, I get 8-10Mb/s while tethering 3G, and 16+MB/s on 4G. Plus overall signal is good around here.

Now, the only issue I get, is my click and collect "shantytown" hut, seems to be right on the border between 3G and 4G.
Result? My phone has no clue what it's doing. Setting it to 3G only does help, but not always.
This usually ends in dropped connections from ED.

All I can say is, life on the border is annoying.
On top of that, I live on the border to Wales. Lol

But I still get to play games at work.

Not sure what I'm getting at with this post, but I felt like sharing it.

That's the important bit. You can feel envied now.

It's not all great. Lol

True, I get to play and work at the same time.

But I've learned that much like when waiting for a parcel, customers will only turn up in the following situations:
(Sorted by most common)
1. When I've just taken a huge bite of something to eat. Food must summon these strange creatures.
2. (ED) When the hyperspace countdown starts, and its too late to stop it. Resulting in my exiting hyperspace and crashing into a star at full throttle.
3. (ED) I'm under attack, or just attacked a wing while mass locked in a belt.
4. (Arma II) I've just taken off in my Chinook, full of soldiers, and carrying a tank. I rarely have time to land. So I usually get everyone killed. I have since banned myself from flying.
5. When I make or receive a phone call from the store.
6. As soon as I've sat down from serving the last customer, closed the door and picked up my gamepad.
7. Before/after their designated slot.
8. Never. Leaving me waiting until the end of that slot, with no time to go and collect the next slots worth of shopping.

Some customers even wait in an adjacent parking space, waiting for one of the above to happen, then drive in. 99% of the time, its number 2 or 3.

I regularly use the Tesco and Asda grocery delivery service. I've often wondered how busy those guys are.

Almost all of them are calm, polite and very helpful. I can't lift a lot now but they are usually more than happy to bring the stuff into my house and empty it onto the living room table.

I realise you work in click and collect plus a very different area from me, in a city, but I must say, it is a great service and you guys are doing well. :)

Thanks! We do try :)

The delivery drivers are usually pretty busy here. And mostly calm! (Only a few rare incidents involving sign posts/trees)
We usually get given just enough time to deliver.
Click and collect can be busy. Thursday evening to Monday morning are usually fully booked up. The rest is pretty much dead. Lol

Despite being a le to play games at work, I actually enjoy driving more. Especially if I get to go and be lost somewhere in Wales in the snow. Lol

I get lost in Wales alot. Can't read the damn signs..
Lllanfillignsasaba..... Or something... All look the same at 60mph. Lol
I usually give them all nicknames. But I then forget which is which....
My favourite being llann-waffle. No idea what it corresponds too anymore. But that's its new name.
