If it was as obvious as you believe it to be, I wonder why that wasn't mentioned at the time when Frontier were so keen to get our support.
The fact he said early on about the scope scaring the pants off most developers and the continual emphasis on incremental feature delivery over time should have been indicative enough.

Keep in mind that games with lesser scope can take 10 years or more to develop.

I don't think that's going to win any plain English awards :)

PS I think he said publishers, not developers.

Ah, one of the standard Star Citizen defences (which I also backed in 2012), and which Chris Roberts also didn't mention before he took the money.

The shamelessness of asking those poor multi-millionaire developers to account for monies previously paid. So heartless.

Irrelevant but same difference - ultimately, the gist is the same.

The difference is FD have been more realistic in their approach - incremental feature release (get one level of an area of functionality working first), even if they do not have a hard plan for the order of feature release. Star Citizen is a running joke on how a project/programme should NOT be run.

Ultimately, the fundamental principle of crowd funding looks good on paper but ultimately is rarely well enough understood by those engaging with it even if things are spelled out to them. It is a venture capital investment scheme with no actual guarantees and minimal protections.

Where the LEP is concerned, (as an educated guess) I think that after the forthcoming premium expansion we may get another premium expansion every 2-3 years maybe longer - no-one could possibly know for certain but FD's performance to date would seem to fit that. Also, if you consider other MMOs and premium expansions for them, that timescale is not entirely unprecedented.

How are you getting on with a refund from them then, considering that they've delivered the square root of frak all five years after the game people originally backed on kickstarter was scheduled for release?

2012 wasn't really your year was it?

Just to be a glass half full guy for a post...... Hopefully this tardiness is a temporary bump in the road going from the drip feed model to the all in 1 go model.

Admittedly it is 1 - 2 years later than I hoped (I was suggesting this to people after the horizons delays and also when beyond was announced that hopefully the scope was so limited was because the majority of the team was working on a great paid premiun update but that is by the by)

however if new era ships complete, then the moment it is out, then hopefully those 100 devs or what ever will then go right onto producing the next era after that, leaving just a small team on new era to bug fix, which will hopefully mean that ED will never again be in the doldrums for as long as it has been.

So long as we dont get a message from FD in 2022 saying "well guys the 10 years are up**, its been a great ride, good night!" and so long as development is on going, as someone who is 43 I will hopefully still be around for future updates even if it does mean we are closer to 2030 to get to the ED kickstarter pitched game.

Personally I am more concerned now about the quality of the new features rather than the time line of them, I dunno about you guys but I have way more games in my collection than I have time to play, so I would rather fall back on those and ED new era knock it out of the park, than have a compromised release.

(of course there is the possibility of still having a lack lustre release even after the delay but lets not go there!)

#I have not forgotten the iceplanet render target teaser! :)

**I am not sure where the 10 year life span rumour came from, it is not something I ever saw officially mentioned but it seems to be talked about by many as a thing.

The ONLY Lep exclusive benefit I would like is : Only Lep owners have the ability to comment on Lep threads.
Discussion would be WAY more productive without having to constantly argue with legal "experts" who have ZERO skin in the game.

Or alternatively, you could organise that discussion yourself somewhere other than here if it's so important to you.

I don't really think it's likely that they're going to introduce some sort of ID check requirement for discussion on the game's official forum. What's next, post a screenshot of your exploration stats before you're allowed to comment in exploration threads? Video of at least five commander kills before you can comment on PVP issues?

By 'legal experts' though, I assume you mean 'people with an opinion which differs from mine and which I really don't like all that much'. Shame but that's life.

The private KS forums are a bit like that.

Yes, and I believe to remember that David said that after ED there will be no new game but only extensions.
He did. But he also contradicted himself a few years later.
For the record me personally, if the technical debt on ED was too great so they chose to start again I would be fine with that..... So long as LEP transferred over as that was sold on the basis of this was the last Elite game and would be cobtrinually updated :)
