I was a Beta backer originally and correct me if I'm wrong but didn't FD say we would get a free ship to make up for the lack of pledged ships at launch...

so do I get a cobra MK4 + an extra free ship (Yay extra ship)

Do I get an extra ship that is not the cobra MK4 (OK as long as we get something better than the MK4)

or is the cobra MK4my extra ship (Boo then its not like a free ship for beta backers is it?)

Does anybody know??

Nobody knows that yet, but i don't think the Cobra Mk iv is it, as it's not free, it will be available to early backers, but you still have to buy it in game.

For a limited time all existing Elite: Dangerous players will receive a £10 loyalty discount plus the exclusive Cobra Mark IV ship when ordering Elite Dangerous: Horizons through the Frontier Store. Discount will be automatically applied at checkout.

That seems pretty unambiguous.

Yes, that's unambiguous, but here's a new wrinkle. I am a Mercenary Elite Dangerous customer who just bought the lifetime expansion pass. Does that mean I also get a Cobra MkIV? I am assuming yes based on the fact that I also got the GBP 10 discount at checkout.

Edit: Had forgotten OP's question by the time I got down here - effectively, while your response in unambiguous for the purchase of ED: Horizons, it is not for the LEP.

Thanks! But in case I didn't understand this right: Lifetime includes BETA access to ALL expansions? And we don't know how many will follow?

If FD are talking about development lifetime of something in the region of 10 years* for ED then I'd imagine you would get your monies worth. As this game is not a subscription based game I would that the FD are going to have to be proactive in creating expansions as they are surely going to be one of their major sources of income.

* This is what I've seen on the forum but I don't know of any FD source to back this up. Additionally, even if this is true I suppose the caveat here is to point out that the best-laid plans of mice and men and game development companies often go awry.

- Do you have any cast iron guarantees from the developers that they will continue to release content for this game for 10 years? Or for even half that? Anything resembling a contract to that effect when you buy the season pass? Or are you just taking their (and other people's) word for that?
- Did you enjoy all of season 1 and feel that CQC, Powerplay and Wings were all good updates and value for money?
- Do you have faith that there will be enough content in the lifetime pass that covers the cost to you? You don't know what's coming, so it's a personal call.
- Is £130 (or the equivalent in your currency) and amount that you aren't concerned about losing if FD don't deliver what you hope to receive?

If the answer to all of the above is yes. Then buy the lifetime pass. If no, either gamble on Horizons now or just wait until you know more.

Hello commanders!

I am struggeling with the DLCs. Bought ED when it was released and I am very happy with it until now. Every game has downsides but I have no doubt that FD will fix that soon enough.

Now with Horzons, the expansion is pretty cool (planetary landings!). However, I will probably buy every expansion as well (probably). So I am not sure wheather I should buy horizons now, or the lifetime expansion pack.

For this, I have some questions. First, is the loyality bonus included in the lifetime expansion? Secondly, if I buy horizons now, will the lifetime expansion be cheaper (relative to the horizon's price) later?
And what would you do? Lifetime expansion? Horizons or no DLC?

Lifetime Expansions won't be offered again as far as I understand it. I don't think that it's worth the money. It's basically price of 4 years worth of expansions that may never happen.

As far as Horizons is concerned, I'm not rushing into it. Information on Horizons is very vague and considering how little was added to the game since launch (Power Play to me was not an addition to the game as far as I'm concerned) and the lack of improvement of the core game I'm going to stay away from buying anything. If things improve between now and the release of Horizons I'll probably buy the expansion but I see no reason for buying this right now. This could easily turn into another Power Play type mess.

It's a gamble innit like. Just like those who put money in during kickstarter that could not even guarantee they would have any type of game at all (thank you all) you may or may not get your money's worth. However you can see what the game is like, have an idea of the expansion coming up and can decide if the track record of Frontier is one you would like to invest in or not. I decided that from what I've seen already I'm willing to take the chance of losing the money and purchased a lifetime pass and am excited about planetary landing, even if we only get non-atmosphere planets in this 'season' and more advanced planet types are in another season entirely.

I got the lifetime expansions, but to be honest I wish there was a third option - lifetime expansions without beta.

I'm not terribly keen on beta-testing, personally.

Can someone please make a table saying what you get for what? I would, but that would be productive. And anyway, most of my skills relate to space murder, not tables.

I would advise against this. first you don't know what you are getting. Second, it is unlikely you will care about ED in four years time nevr mind the years after that. What game have you ever played for that amount of time? Do you not think that in four years time there will be something else that will have your attention?

I bought the lifetime pass for expansions for BF4 and Gears of War. Both games that I tired of before the DLC was all released. Both were great games.

I will never do that again. Nowadays I buy as I go. If I am still interested in the game by the time the expansions arrive I will be willing to pay for them.

I am baffled reading posts how players are rushing to order this even today! Seriously? Do they think the quicker they order it, the quicker they will be playing it?

:)

So it includes BETA Access and access to all current and future Seasons of Elite: Dangerous.
Here is what I would like to know:

  • Do you get the Cobra MK IV if you are an existing Elite Dangerous player?
  • Does it include the base game of ED?
  • If it does include the base game of ED, will an existing player be able to upgrade the existing account to beta & seasons access AND receive a second account to play with?
Information is very welcome :)

1. However you buy Elite: Dangerous - Horizons (normal or Beta) you will get the Cobra MK IV as an existing player (as long as you buy before ~Dec 2015)
2. Yes
3. It will upgrade your current account, not give you more than one account

Invisible post is spooky.

Post text in black for those of us that don't use the black theme..

Can't read that, just looks like 3 dots and nothing else to me.

Yup more forum format silliness...just highlight the text.

OP, The expansion pass includes all things. If you already have the game, then the discount is to represent the fact that you alredy spent 25, 50, or 75 dollars on the game.

If you don't have the game, then the pass includes all things, but you can't play until horizons is released (or goes to beta as that comes with the pass)

Totally. I've been posting everywhere today saying I think paying up front for this now is not a wise investment in my opinion, or healthy for the industry. But obviously if in 2 years I'm still playing then I won't begrudge buying another expansion, even if it costs more overall. But at least I won't have gambled away money or have encouraged the pre-ordering/season pass/premium culture that's so pervasive.

I have erred on side of caution and just bought the expansion on its own - but then, I'm not interested in beta testing and i see it as reasonable installment appreciation if/when I buy the next "season"..

I am mighty envious of those with the foresight to dive in on the original lifetime pass - what a deal!

i thought about it,even with discount 180 is alot for me
dont get me wrong its cool to pay this and never worry about it but I DONT KNOW WHAT OTHER EXPANSIONS ARE
so i will take it slow and see what each expansion has and then buy or dont buy it
if its that cqc expansion for example then i would rather pass on that one and get something more interesting later on

cqc expansion probably gonna be free but you get what i mean if its something that might not be as cool as landing on planets, maybe few extra pay for ships that i dont like then i will not pay for that type of expansion

It sure is.

I'm happy that I got the lifetime expansion pass earlier on in beta for a cheaper price. However, given what I know now (in its current state ED is a big disappointment to me) I would not part with the money.

But if you currently enjoy ED, are optimistic about its future and have the cash then who is to stop you?

Participation is not mandatory. So far beta builds have been an entirely separate game that you download and play / test independently of the main game.
