Horizons Liking mining now...

I thoroughly enjoyed my time mining in my Python yesterday. Automating the refining process has improved the experience massively. My overall efficiency has improved to the point of surprise that I'd filled my 128t hold in what felt like a blink of an eye, compared to normally.

At last, my favourite profession is becoming fun again. Now we just need MB4 Mining Machines and all will be right with the Universe.

Upgrading means more slots in the hopper.

The base functionality of the hopper itself remains the same.

The previous functionality of the hopper and the micro-mangement was so rudimentary it's almost the same as having a handcrank to start your car instead of having an actual starter motor.

Sure the handcrank feels more like a real job, but it's a pain in the ass way to do it and entirely unnecessary.

Nomatter how basic, advanced, small or big a car is today, they all come with basic functionality such as a starter instead of a handcrank.

For sure, but in the handcrank days most people could fix it themseves, nowadays even the "qualified" mechanic who works on your car has so little knowledge of anything outside the mechanical that they just send for a new pcb module from the manufacturer and charge you a fortune for the privilege.

To be honest, I only ever tried mining during 1.4.

Me too apart from an early try before limpets, but I have done a lot of mining in the last 2 months and although the limpets are constantly going through the beams, they have never blown on me. They have been crushed by asteroids a few times though.

I don't need to be able to fix it myself as long as the start motor... or, for the sake of getting back on topic... the hopper is working without the need to micromanage.

Being unable to fix it myself and having to pay for any repairs is not an issue since the removal of the micromanagement means I am earning more than enough to give myself a profit as well as cover any repair costs.

Not only that, but it also creates jobs and improves the economy since I get a profit, can pay for repairs, which means repairmen have a job which pays, which means they pay taxes for the greater good and also can afford to support their family, which means their kids will grow up and they can afford a nice school so their kids get smart and can join the Imperial Navy to help defender miners who no longer have to micromanage their hoppers.

Yeah it's not a nerf it's a fix. The issue was poor programming not game design.

PollyCough meant limpets being damaged by the mining lasers.
Exactly!
Also It all works so smoothly in horizons, its "almost" too easy.

I found (in beta) 4 X 2D lasers did a fair job!

Describing the functionality of the refinery as a Handcrank is a matter of opinion frankly.
I simply see it as a route to upgrade.
This idea that the hopper of refinery would get stuck is rubbish. It simply needed to be told what to refine next much like a lot of modern processes today.
