Local delivery missions?

Anyone seen any local delivery missions recently? The ones that were a jump away. They all seem to be around 200Ly now, give or take a few Ly either way. Additionally they all seem to be for 196t. Used to see varying amounts as little as 20t.

Did a couple for 122t (of biowaste) yesterday(?) for 200+ LY away. Normally I do not take these, but I have seen shorter distances recently. I would check other systems.

[Edit] Took my alt CMDR to a station with medium pads, 122 tons to be delivered 200+ LY. Lots of source and return for different amounts.

[Edit] Jumped to another system, large station. An assortment of delivery missions, including wing. Deliver 66-98t about 135 LY distant.

Yes the source and return missions haven’t changed. Have you seen any delivery missions with a 1 jump distance? That seems to be the main change. The shortest distance I have seen recently across a number of stations was just over 170Ly.

There was a change maybe a year or more back where the higher profit delivery missions went to longer travel distances. Add that to the 'sneaky' missions where the travel distance to the system station is 110,000 LS. :)

Having gone through a bunch of station’s mission boards today I found 3 local delivery missions, but dozens of long distance ones. So they are still around, but not common. That seems a fairly recent change to me.

Data delivery missions or commodity delivery missions?

IIRC, data is usually < 20 LY away. whereas commodities are further out. But I have not played much lately (past three weeks).

Not a "fairly recent change", this happened with one of the updates in the second half of last year. Still not sure if it's intended or not, because the destinations for the deliveries always seem to be clustered around the same place as if there's a constant offset (from the source system) being applied.

Ah! Not had much chance to play since early December last year, so just come to my attention. Interesting about the cluster for deliveries. I don’t think you can transfer mission cargo to a carrier, which would be the ideal solution.

Yes I noticed this too the other night - some systems offering haulage missions of 150-190ly other systems the normal local area ones. Might be related to system or faction state, I never investigated that. Maybe something for the BGS aficionados to play with there?

From what they've said, the destination selection has three regions to choose from for each non-passenger mission
- local 20LY sphere
- a ~11LY sphere near Colonia
- one or more of a set of spheres within the bubble, selected at random not to be too close (which is why they cluster)
There are then further restrictions which might apply (e.g. massacre missions always pick local, and have a further range limit too)

There was a bug a while back that meant that the third of those regions stopped being selectable a little while after the weekly server reset. That was fixed so that they now show up all week again (it was a long-standing bug, but it was working properly back in 2016 or so when I was last regularly doing missions in the bubble).

Whether a particular faction has mostly-local or mostly-remote missions for its cargo delivery type specifically is likely to do with clumpiness in how the mission servers generate missions and may well vary over the course of a day.

Commodity deliveries. Lots of long distance ones.
Yes, as @Ned Flandalorian and @Ian Doncaster said above.

I experienced this almost daily from the middle of February 2023 to the beginning of May 2023 while I was performing many BGS manipulating activities during that time.

I usually took one of these missions every day. And no, one cannot transfer mission commodities to a carrier. Though I did use my carrier to transport my ship with the cargo, rather than jumping all that way and risk losing it to some rando/NPC/PVP/mistake...

I've always thought these long-distance missions rather odd. For one thing the economics rarely make sense: carrying low-value items like biowaste 200ly for a high fee doesn't seem like a reasonable financial exercise when 90% of stations have more c*** than they can cope with.
True, they pay well, but, if you're pushing a faction up the greasy pole, two local +++ data deliveries are fulfilled quicker than a long journey for +++++.

I've noticed it varies by State (so, obviously grouped by station faction too.) There are some missions where that's obvious logic, like the "during expansion" missions, but just generally, you seem to get factions where everything is long distance and other factions where everything's much more local.

Really helps mission-stacking when you find yourself somewhere with three factions that are in three different interesting states - you can pick up two of everything before you make a single hyperspace hop sometimes, and fulfil a double-figure number of missions with a couple of hops.

Yesterday I got an in-system delivery offered to me which has never happened before, and it was only a couple of hundred LS as well.

Remember back in the day hauling jobbie from a really distant colony system (Sothis LOL) for loads and loads of money?
