Logging Off On Planet

I have a question (or two) about logging off on planet, a thing that I haven't done since the Horizons launch when it could be a bit buggy. In view of the extended stay at BP :-

  1. If I log off and then log back on and another Commander's ship occupies the same space as mine, what happens?
  2. Do we still have the bug where your ship can fall through the planet at logon?

I'd really like to not take off in order to logoff each night, but if it's still potentially iffy with large amounts of Commanders in the same place, well, so be it.

Kaboom! [woah]

FME of a couple of days ago, sometimes. But if you log off again and then log on again. you will be on the surface.

I don't thing there is any need to log off in space. You should be safe(ish).

Ouch! I don't mind risking 3 months of game play and nearly 5000 system scans to my own flight skills (or lack of), but I balk at risking that to a bug (or possibly a coding oversight). Yes, I could probably ticket that and get the cost of the ship back, but that's by the by compared to the scan data as far as I'm concerned! Not to mention the other Commander that would also suffer!

All things considered, I think I may log off in orbit for the duration :(

I move to a location that's either unlandable or unlikely for someone to land at and then log out.

Haven't had any problems being under the ground in my ship but I usually log off in the air 5-25m above the ground.

Yes your ship will start sinking in the planet but you can remedy this easily by lifting off and landing again with no damage to your ship.

There's a bug?
Currently logged off after landing at WP17. Logged back in once to meet up with some fellow visitors with no ill effect (other than buggy having difficulty getting out from under the ship).
Landed and logged off many times in the past too.

Caveat....not logged into a very very busy instance yet. Saw about 15 others at one of the early waypoints before being thrown out with transaction errors amd returning to an instance of around 6 or 7.

I'm not sure but I think you will simply spawn into another instance.
I had this one time after switching from Group to Open. Immediately BANG! (No, not the ship exploded) But I spawned into an instance where I was alone with only 2 CMDRs.
And via Chat I found out there must be plenty of CMDRs exactely at this place.

Edit : Which was half an accident, half an absentmindedness. I'm also a bit scared about this possibility.
On the other hand It would be a surprise if nobody had discovered a real danger earlier...

I have logged off on planet many, many times, but never in ship, only in SRV. Ship can get you killed.
I always dismiss my ship the second it is available after landing.

I will do this too.
Never had a situation of being on the same positon a whole week...

Call me paranoid, but I take off, fly 20,000Ls away, switch on orbit lines, log off and then have a sleepless night wondering if my ship will be there when I log on.

I usually park a bit further on so I can make an entrance.

Ladies and gentlemen, straight from ... just over there ... heeeeeeere's Ziggy!

I have logged off at every waypoint without incident... but I usually move off to the "long term" parking area first (or failing that come in to SOLO to move first)... Some overlook or craggy surface.
Even logged off a couple of times on the side of a hill with no actual landing zone (just settled in and turned thrusters off.)
As long as you are stable.. and don't move around too much in your ship :) Everything is O.K. :D

I've heard of a ship logging in inside another ship.
Apparently, you can move both your ships until they are outside each other's hit box without any risk of damage.

Don't quote me though, just heresay.

Some folk have said that leads to a BOOM-type scenario, but my experience thus far has not shown that to be the case - as can be seen in this screenshot when I logged in to find myself having been eaten by an Anaconda... :D

I didn't try to take off though, simply logged out & back to a different private group and moved the ship. A bit like the Morlocks and the Time Machine. Ish.

Hmm, there seems to be conflicting ideas about what exactly happens, but your screencap is quiet compelling Turjan!

I think, without clarification from FD as to exactly what happens, that I'll be taking the most cautious option and logging off while off planet. I'd be really hacked if I got taken out by this, but would never live with myself if I took out someone else as well!
