Lone Echo

This weekend 6/23 starts the Echo Arena open beta for Oculus Touch

I just downloaded and ran through the tutorial. I have to say, this is how zero g can work in VR. I was just imagining this locomotion through our ships. They've cracked the code on moving though the environment without nausea.

This beta is for the arena battle game, that is basically Enders Game battle school. lots of fun, but I did almost fall down.

Have you tried the ISS demo yet? If so, is the movement similar to that? I thought that had zero G movement done really well.

Actually there is quite a lot of difference. ISS actually made me sick but echo arena doesn't at all. It does a whole lot of little things to mitigate any sickness.

Purely world design.
The Iss station is circular with new hallways going in any direction, and since we are gravity bound this gets really wierd.

Well Lone Echo is released and I'm about an hour into the campaign. I have to say, I'm completley blown away. This is how zero g should be. I almost don't want to see Elite go there if they can't hit this benchmark. It's fantastic. The integration of environmental movement and menus with proper puzzle style maintenance gameplay is so immersive and feels so fluid.

Anyone else pick this up? I truly hope Frontier is watching and learning from this one.

Does LE require Touch? I'm noticing that nearly all of the newer releases need Touch, and I've spent far too much cash recently on other stuff...

I downloaded the Lone Echo free multiplayer thing, Echo Arena, not tried it yet, but if the Zero G thing works as well as ISS, it should be good.

Yes.
Completely designed for touch.
The entire game is based on you reaching, grabbing, pushing buttons and twisting levers.
Some are even on your person.
Only grabbed an hour so far but THIS is the beginning of a true VR game.

Robo recall for example is great, but it's an arcade demo game.
A real story line, a true AAA game for vr.
And best of all. No teleporting.

I agree. Lone Echo, Mages Tale, Bridge Crew are the start of the new dawn of gaming.

The design of the ship with all the hand holds is very similar to the interior and exterior of the Elite ships. Our ships in ED are also covered in hand holds.

Movement is similar to The Climb, which does have controller support. It could work for Elite, but Touch is where space legs could shine. I know that due to install base, our ship movement will be limited to what a controller and monitor can handle, but Lone Echo really sets the mind free to think potential.

The story is great too. I really feel like it's me and my human partner in the ship. Like most story based games though, I'm already sad it will end...

I picked it up as well. I'm about two hours in to the campaign and I have to say I have been blown away as well. You can really tell this game was designed from the ground up for VR. I really like that you can see the arms attached to your hands. A lot of the other touch controlled games I have tried just have the magic hands floating in space. Being able to see arms move along with the hands seems much more realistic. And the movement is zero G is just fantastic.

That's probably a first.

I would really love to keep playing. But my legs are just aching.
I'm not built for this.. :(
LOL did excercise just become fun? What is happening up all up in here!?

I'm sitting at work thinking about playing this game. I love it when that happens.

I'm probably going to try the Echo arena. I did the beta tutorials, but never made it into the game. I'm a little intimidated. VR is just so personal.

Pretty much.
Although I'm not sure how many would consider standing around and waving your hands in front of you as exercise.

Then again it's probably better than parking my butt in a recliner and stuffing chips and candy down my gullet which would be the usual way.

So yeah as a side effect. VR has made me a more active person hehe.

Just wanted to add my voice to this thread, Lone Echo is absolutely stunning. I basically haven't really played another computer game since I got ED about two and a half years ago (aside from dipping into things like Robo Recall occasionally) but Lone Echo has me hooked. It's just wonderful, utterly absorbing and a total VR game changer.

I have to agree, I've been taking my time with it because, like a great movie, book, or game I know that he narrative will come to an end and I just don't want it to. There have been moments when I just stood there looking around in astonishment. There have been times when I had to lift the Rift and just catch my breath. There is a moment when I was so relieved, that I just wanted to hug Olivia, and I actually did. I've always had a pretty easy suspension of disbelief, and this game got into my head.

From a tecnical perspective, the've set a bar for movement in VR that feels tactile and real, without nausea. They've also really done a great job bringing an NPC character to life and making you really feel something in the world.

Echo Arena is pretty fantastic too and is a MP game changer for sure. Enders Game e-sport. It's intense and hell of fun...

I've played video games before and cared about the characters but lone echo was the first game where it felt very personal and real. I played the game very seriously the whole way playing the final 3 hrs straight through and when I was done the character still resonated with me and the memories I have still feel real. I really hope RAD plans on making a sequel because I'm want to go back.
