Long 'black screen' transitions between foot & srv or ship

You were looting? It was probably waiting for the fuzz to arrive so you could get your just desserts.

It was legitimate salvage, no stolen items at all! And what better way to disincentivize scavengers to return than to leave the settlement full of scavenger corpses and devoid of lootz? I bet the fuzz was coming to thank me for my hard work!

I get this. Every once on a while I am getting out of my ship and I get the footsteps and a black screen.

Sometimes it lasts 15 seconds, other times it seems to be broken, after 5 full minutes I have to close out of the game and restart.

After 6 updates, this is still a problem.

Yep, they have now implemented the whole "walk through your entire ship to get to the cockpit" Arthur spoke about, only without the pretty interior graphics.

On a more serious note, I've been sitting at that black screen for a good five minutes, trying to board my ship. I could however exit to main menu, and after relog I'm sitting in my cockpit, go figure.
Yup same process here.

I use uPnP for automatic port forwarding, and it seems to be set up properly as its recognised ED and assigned ports to it.

I might try a manual set up to see if that helps any.
Personally, I've found the manual setup to be less problematic including with Horizons. As I said I'm not sure this is causing the issue but it might make your game run better in general anyway. I set it up manually but haven't turned off UPnP as my son has a ton of games that make use of it, and there's no way I'm going through them all manually!

Anyone else experiencing this?

The screen goes black and I hear the 'footsteps' but they just keep going ... all the while I'm taking damage from whatever NPCs are shooting at me.

I've done a search on the tracker and couldn't see this anywhere ... I'm experiencing upwards of 10-20 second transitions between foot / srv / ship sometimes.

I've checked my network pings and so on and don't see anything unusual. One thing I did notice is that the ED 'bandwidth' monitor spikes once the black transition has completed.

I can understand why FD made it so that damage is received during transition, as theoretically that is just the time it takes to go from one mode or the other. (And maybe one day we might even get an animation instead of the black screen ;)

But what I'm experiencing is that is is more of a 'loading' screen between modes - which can sometimes take a really long time.

I've died several times just watching that black screen whilst under fire

I can handle the loading time, but in that case the ability to take damage should be removed.

@sallymorganmoore Is this on your (or anyone's) radar?

Hmmmmmmmmm, so if I remember correctly we had this happen sometimes when you were all trying to exit your SRV or something like that some time ago! Like you'd be mid transition somehow and end up hearing things going on around you (even footsteps) for some time before the game kicked in again. I thought it had eased up somehow. I'll have a little ask around :)

Hey, yes - that's exactly it. I can hear the NPCs around me, and can even deploy my gun, but the screen is completely black.

After a while the transition completes and I'm back in my SRV ... if the scavs haven't killed me by then ;)

AHA!! SO IT'S HERE AGAIN!! I want to double check if we absolutely tackled it or tried to at any point to see what's going on. Definitely aware of it from before, so thanks for mentioning!

At least during those "transitions" ALL gaming NPC should be put on HOLD. I was "killed" many times by the destruction of my SRV because I reach it and try to enter. I had to wait this long "transition" while the NPCs pirates keep your time aiming and shooting at will my vehicle! I could do nothing but wait. What the heck?

I think the trouble is that the game hasn't "kicked out" as such and you go on taking damage or whatever, completely helpless to respond.

"That's all right, fellah. You carry on with the plasma shotgun, I'll just sort out this seatbelt. Homestly, it's completely twisted - what was she thinking?!"

I have the same. I thought it was slow connection (me or fdev).

Either that or it's the "Armstrong moment".

I had this issue too, and it didnt seem to be consistent. Sometimes it would be quick, 3-5 seconds, but then randomly it would take forever, almost up to a solid minute or two. I doubt it's a storage drive issue because if it was, it would be CONSISTENTLY slow. But it isn't.

I get this too on occasion. When disembarking from the Krait Phantom, fade to black and footsteps that seem to last aaaaaages. Makes me wonder just how long the ship ramp is.o_O Why cant I run down the steps? I run everywhere else in Odyssey.

It happens to me pretty often while leaving my ship/SRV. In my case either I sucessfully disembark in 1-3 seconds or the black screen with footsteps lasts forever (tried up to 3 minutes) and I have to relogin.

Not a game breaker but annoying...

This happens to me regularly. On Saturday night I crashed to desktop 3 times after menu logging following this persistent black screen/footsteps. Most of my squadron rarely experience this so it seems likely to be something at my end. Particularly frustrating if doing scanning biologicals etc. as then you're in and out of the ship/SRV constantly.
I have a decent Computer (Ryzen 3700x , Ryzen 6700XT, 32Gb RAM). If there is a technical reason for this or set of settings that I can tweak/change then posting them would be great.
What is not great is that as it's an Odyssey problem I'm not supposed to put in a support ticket just log it on the issue tracker, which has been done multiple times already but I haven't seen a solution yet.
