Long distance travel less boring idea: Warp Highway minigame

Hello everyone,
some months ago I bought this wonderful game and I like to contribute with my idea to make less boring an aspect that I found the most boring thing in the game: long journey inactive time.

I find that making more than 10 - 15 jumps in a trip is very time-consuming and boring that according to me makes the 99% of the players to not move far away from the bubble
(is that for a design purpose due to the lack of "cool things" to explore like atmospheric plates?). I mean, recently I had in mind to visit some tourist beacons (with my 74ys jump range Anaconda). I found, however, that in the end, I spent 2 HOURS in jumping for just a few minutes to stare what the tourist point has to offer (that in most cases was neither worth the effort). You understand that the ratio between efforts and benefits is a real joke.

Now follows a personal thought that many of you won't agree, but I'll report anyway: During the journey, between a jump and another, to make less boring the process, I spent my time on my tablet surfing on the web.... wait... is not the goal of a game to entertain me? What is the sense to "play" a game if I perform other actions to make it less boring... I mean... For this, I have many tasks in real work life. I find less boring grinding materials on a planet... at least I can move from a place to another with my SRV and take-off from a site to another on the same/another planet with my ship.

Here the idea for a Warp Highway that al least could make less boring the journey (optionally, this highway may be made available for jo that require at least 500ly, if you still want to make the game not too "easy"):
  1. It is a sort of minigame where the ships enter in a sort of "warp highway" where the player for 3 - 5 minutes (or a "reasonable" time proportional to the distance) has to actively pass through some checkpoints
  2. Fuel scoop: there are special checkpoints where the user has to fuel scoop to refill the tank
  3. Neutron star: along the way, there are special neutron star checkpoints that allow the user to shorten the ETA to the destination
  4. If the user fails any checkpoint, the user is kicked in the system in which he failed and has to way an X minutes cooldown to continue the journey if still above 500ly. Otherwise, the "warp highway" is not available and he has to perform the old fashioned way to reach the destination

Another cool idea (that certainly has been posted):
  1. If I already visited a destination... Let say Colonia... I can transform my self in 3 - 5 - X hours in there automatically (like it happens when transferring a ship). Meanwhile, I cannot play the game
  2. Ship selection at login: it would be cool I the user can choose which ship wants to pilot at the login screen. I mean, I could have a ship in Colonia and another in Deciat. At login, I'd like to choose which one to pilot. The idea is that the player is not a player but part of a "Crew" and at log in, he selects which member of his crew to be.

... Thanks for reading! :)

Sounds like you miss old dos racing games.

I would be for it, if it wasn't super-arcadey and there was some cost to offset it.

Not credits, but possibly high risk to your ship, a required module that needs to be "fuelled" similar to what we're hearing about megaships, and/or a cool-down of hours duration, so that it wasn't just a no-brainer to always use the "super-jump" or whatever you call it.

Maybe there is a chance of your ship being destroyed if you mess up, so you're making an almost Faustian decision if you choose to use it away from the bubble.

More choices is always good, as long as they're meaningful. It would give more decisions to make in the black, more stuff to weigh against sunk time, and a Hail Mary option for when space madness sets in hard.

For the warp gate idea, that's a bit too much of an arcade game thing for me. It's not something I really see linking up with the gameplay in ED.

As for the other ideas you mentioned- any jumping around the galaxy tends to have one of the following issues:

1. You're asking a games developer to implement something which means people put the game down and do something else.
2. Remove the time delay and you basically have fast travel, which isn't going to be a popular option.

Jumping to another ship location might work though. For example, buy a ticket from Rick's Fast Beluga Travel Company (just don't mind the bits of Corvette still stuck to the front) at a station and it drops you off at any other station you have a ship stored at some kind of cost. It'd be better than a Suicidewinder, but TBH I think a lot of players have no real issue with flying and picking up the exploration data on top.

Yes, you are absolutely right, it is very arcade.

The main goal, however, is to propose my thoughts hoping that they may be used as a starting point (by the developer and the community) to improve the long journey aspect of the game because now, according to me, it is really really too boring.

CMDR Yates fair enough, I agree that that method should be balanced using a sort of cool-down and it should be more risk if something goes wrong.

Deejayeff145 I like the idea of a ticket to travel back to a location.

wormholes which appear and disappear at certain places every few days or weeks. if you are there, jump in.... if not... wait...

it sounds cool!

It would be also great if they were some sort of old Guardian gates (maybe unlockable by quest...or simply repairing them without any mission) were introduced that allows this kind of jumps. They may be requiring some raw materials (but please, may it be a reasonable cost....I mean NOT something like 100 Tellurium , 100 Antimony, 100 Polonium)

I would like to spend my time in-game exploring and visiting planes, tourist beacon, Lagrange clouds and something like this, more than doing some stuff, that is needed for other stuff that at last allows me to explore something... that requires just 2 seconds to be visited and then start again.
