EDH or EDO? But it doesn't matter much, systems aren't that much different. Looking at EDDB, Arapahoma is a fed industrial system with a couple of space stations reasonably close to the jump-in point.
So, if you want to stick to a single system, what do you want differently?
Thanks Tyres, but I have no way to get way out there. I only have the starter SidewinderDo you want a good central system with discounts on ships and modules? Diaguandri. Most systems provide missions for trade, transport and combat so you can't really go wrong there.
It really is about what you want to do.
In that case, you lose nothing by doing a self destruct and choosing the Sidewinder in your starter system as the option. That'll get you back to the Dromi area.I only have the starter Sidewinder

Okay, I exploded myself for science.... but does it though? If they started out in Oddity then they probably have never been in the noob-zone from what I have read. So where does the freewinder start them in that case?
Maybe @Chris Simon can tell us about this as I believe he did a clear save and started in Oddity.
When I was new, I just drifted from system to system until I found one that I liked. Then I stayed a bit to get my reputation (and payouts) up there. I think I just picked based on appearance. It really doesn't matter that much, esp at the beginning.
Eranin is nice. I spent a lot of time there my first few months in game. Its an agri system (medium security iirc so good for bounty hunting) with a high tech system (aulin iirc) one jump away, so the trading is good. There is also an interstellar factor, and haz rez in a system one jump away as well, lp 98-132 iirc.
I suggest Diaguandri or LHS 20. Both are LYR systems which give you a nice 15% discount on ships/modules and also have a reasonable selection. So, I am new CMDR to game. I am way out in the Arapahoma system and sitting on Mitchell Orbital. I am looking for a better system. Anyone able to suggest a good system?
Thanks
Yes, Odyssey starts you in HIP 97950 - Chamerlain's Rest.Okay, I exploded myself for science.
Choosing free Sidewinder whisked me to HIP 97950 - Chamberlain's Rest, which is I believe my starting system. It is indeed NOT in the noobzone.
I'm not 100% sure this is where I started but I believe so - The name of the base rings a bell.
In any case, I was interested, because I thought maybe instead of my starting system, the Freewinder would return me to the system where I got my pilot's licence. (I don't remember the system either, but I got my licence and the Sidey AFTER I moved to Imperial space by taxi).
But no.
So there.
1) You don't start Odyssey in the noobzone. (which is extra spicy, because as I discussed previously, the fact that the game throws you into OPEN without telling you after you've done the introductory mission is cheeky on its own, and now knowing it's in the wilds, too,...)
2) You get moved back to your starting location, NOT the location where you got the first Sidey/Eagle/whichever ship you're eligible to start with.
3) I would need a confirmation from somebody else who also started afresh in Odyssey, but I suspect they may returned to semi-random starting point? shruggs
In any case. You're welcome. You owe me 32k.![]()
Yes, I signed up 7 years ago, but didn't do anything in EDThere is no best system. You go and do the things you want to do and see where it takes you. The worst thing you can do is stay in one place. Do the community goals if you're not sure what to do. they'll take you through a range of activities all over the place. If you're not sure how do do anything, just ask.
How come you're new to the game, but you signed up to the forum 7 years ago?
