Loosing an SRV cost me 70 million Credits

So long story short, I finally saved up for a Python, was 300k short on insurance (silly me donated 1.5m to Empire just before I left).

I land on a planet, send my Python away and some skimmers destroyed my SRV. In the death screen it says 0 Cr to replace it (as it usually does, not my first death in an SRV but I usually have insurance covered), so I respawn in a sidewinder with 2.8 million to my name :(

Just wondering is this working as intended and I just lost a years worth of work or is this some kind of bug? Would appreciate any feedback.

There's 2 options, respawn in your original ship which is orbiting the planet, or respawn in a sidewinder. Weird second option to be honest but you simply selected the wrong one.

Writting to support might be worth it, if you nag them long enough they might revert your save if it was a honest mistake.

What second option? I dont follow, all I saw was an Ok button and 0 Cr cost. The game then went into a loading loop and had to close it and go back in.

When you die in an SRV, your ship doesnt blow up, its still orbiting the planet and you have the option to respawn in it (you just lose your SRV unit for obvious reasons), unless you were in Open, and another CMDR blew your ship up in orbit, but I think you would have gotten a warning "ship under attack" message.

Yeah no one blew it up...so basically I have to what, fly to it in orbit? Can I even find it, I mean stuff in space is randomly generated out of thin air.

Yeah apparently there is an option when an SRV dies to abandon 70M Cr worth of ship. Because making money in this game is a breeze. Heh even if I did have insurance cost it Id still loose all my progress basically.

So yeah, think Ill just sell the game or something, I really cant be bothered to start from scratch after so many hours over something like this, having that ship was my goal for the last few months.
Heh even thinking about 100s of hours to A rate a Viper makes me sick to my stomach and another year to get to a Python again just not worth it anyway I look at it. God Im pist right now -.-

Just open a support ticket.

Gonna try it but not much hope, apparently its a feature or idk. Didnt even see the option when I selected it

I started a new game with a new Cmdr a few weeks ago. It took me only two weeks doing missions and community goals (no, not the Moria singularity, no senseless grinding) to earn 100 Million Cr. I learned, things changed from back a year ago. Give it another try!

There's a better way friend. All your faction ranks should be in place.

2 days Max you are back on your feet depending on how much you play.

Bounty hunt for a couple hours. Buy asp explorer and outfit. A few sothis runs and you will be back in no time. I made 50 MIL in about 1.5 hours yesterday doing sothis/ceos.

Is it a bug where if you don't have the insurance for your ship, and you die in the SRV, then you lose your ship?

OP can you confirm if you had the two options or only one? Although even if you did have two options what the hell would be the point of that option?

As others have said you simply chose the wrong option when you respawned and instead of spawning back in your ship (which is what you usually want to do if you die in an SRV) you decided to abandon your ship and spawn in a starting Sidey. Your ship is now gone; however I believe support are usually quite good about these incidents if you contact them and will probably return your ship at least the first time that you do it. Seriously, don't bin the game off - contact them.

However the real lesson is the line I quoted. Although it doesn't actually have anything to do with what went wrong for you this time, never, ever fly without at least one insurance rebuy because if your ship had been blown up, you'd have lost it and there would be nothing at all that anybody would have been able to do about it.

Seriously, why is that option offered? It's insane.

Pretty sure they removed the second/sidewinder option in 2.1 as people used it to get home with all their exploration data intact.

I died in an SRV recently and there was only the rejoin ship option.

OP's issue sounds like a bug to me. Maybe it did the insurance calculation based on his ship instead of the SRV and only offered the sidewinder option.

OP, file a support ticket. FD are quite good at sorting these UI snafus out.

This SRV death option, shouldn't even be an option. If your ship is in orbit, you should automatically be sent to it.
I have no idea why FD left an option to respawn in a sidewinder cos your SRV blew up... Weird.
It's been requested it be removed several times.

Additionally, never, EVER, fly any ship, especially a big one, without enough credits insurance, not even a tiny amount short. Not even from 1 dock to another. Just don't. It's not worth the risk.
One mistake and all your hard work is gone. And FD will not reimburse you for that, because that's alllll your fault.(unless a bug killed you)
It's best to keep 2 or more ships at all times, a cheap but useful ship, like a Cobra, and your big ship, which in your case is a Python.
If your credit balances gets too low, you can store your Python and fly your cheaper ship to recover some cash with minimal risk.
Ideally you want atleast enough money to cover 2-4 rebuys of your most expensive ship, ideally 10x rebuys.

Saying, I should follow my own advice. Lol
I own 2 Pythons, and an Anaconda, and FDL.
No small ship to recoup money with, should the worst happen!
(I do have 75,000,000cr in the bank though) :D

Thanks for all the comments guys and yeah I guess I did pick the wrong option from what I gather, didnt even think there were 2 options to be frank I just clicked OK.
In any case I sent a support ticket and we shall see what FD think.

Also thanks for the suggestions, will look up what Sothis runs are, tho I doubt it will take me 2 days to get back, took me about a couple of months from Asp to Python and that was these 2 months where I had hours of time for Elite. Even with my Allied status missions (I dont stack em by logging off/on).

I genuinely don't think there are 2 options anymore. I died recently in an SRV and am sure there is only one. I'm sure it's a bug get a ticket raised.

No, there are always two options, First one: respawn in sidewinde. Second one: respawn on your ship.

If you click the second option you respawn in your ship in orbit unless for some reason it got blown up while flying away.

2 Pythons, Anaconda and FDL? Heh so what I put 2 eagles a Type6 and a viper with my budget when I bought the Python XD

I dont know, I make around 2-3 million per 4 hours or so in the game sometimes more, sometimes less with an Asp, made around 4-6 million with the Python in about the same time before space radiation got him.

I dont like doing things only for credits tho I find that tedious, although in retrospect my farming Empire rank is just as tedious haha
