What are Thargoid Meta Alloys?

Meta-alloys have a complex lattice structure with large internal voids. They are cellular in nature, and formed organically. They are incredibly strong - much stronger than foamed aluminium for example. Many elements form the structure so technically they are alloys, but the composition is different in different parts of the cell walls for strength. They are good thermal insulators, and have a high melting point, but if they are melted they lose all their special properties and become a conventional alloy. They are easily machined, but as yet cannot be manufactured, only found in space. They are associated with recently discovered alien entities nicknamed 'Large Barnacles' by interstellar explorers. These appear to be common in certain parts of space, although no-one is certain why. This material has been heralded as the next step in materials technology. It is ultra-light and stronger and more versatile than most commercially available alloys.

I often feel like the description above of meta alloys is incomplete, based only on what contemporary Humanity has tested and understands about these meta alloy materials. Recently I had ideas about their true potential. The human uses of these alloys which are essential to Thargoid technology seems dull and uninspired and has me suspecting that there is far more to the importance of meta alloys than Humanity realizes.

I think that the true nature of meta alloys are that they are alloys of very stable energetic elements that are delicately phased in a state encompassing the properties of both matter and energy. They seem to be materials that exhibit a stable transition from energy to matter and vice versa. I often wonder how to explain how damaged Thargoid technology regenerates itself or how the meta alloys are gathered without seeing the solid alloys themselves actually being physically harvested. It occurs to me that the Thargoids are transforming the alloys into an energy and then harvesting this substance. When a thargoid vessel repairs itself, it is organizing this energetic substance and transforming it back into solid matter where the damage has occured replacing destroyed material with matter formed from the stored meta-alloy energy.
