Newcomer / Intro Lori Jameson Permit Needed

I was promoted to dangerous a few days ago and got an invitation from the engineer named Lori Jameson, but I need a permit to go to her system.

The last time I needed a permit I had to do missions to earn a permit from systems and stations surrounding the engineers system, but I can't figure out how to get a permit for Shinrarta Dezhra.

I appreciate any help you can give me with this.

For Shinrarta Dezhra access, you either have to be a Founder or be Elite in at least one of the three disciplines. So I guess Lori will have to wait for some time.

O7,

Be a Founder or Elite.
Founder ship sailed past at Kickstarter phase, so become Elite.
Elite in Trading & Exploring are so ridiculously easy to achieve nowadays, either one will do if you're not inclined to pop a gazillion NPCs for Combat Elite.

I thought Dangerous was the highest combat rank. Are there combat ranks higher then dangerous?

Newcomers forum? Really.
I guess the toxicity of the other bits prevents getting any answers.
Yeah, visiting Lori is a little weird in terms of the access. She may as well have been gated behind Elite status.

You're good as soon as you reach it.
Just keep in mind that once you reach deadly you're effectively half way in terms of kills, but as you go up the ranks the lower end kills are worth less.
So it's a fair grind for combat elite.
The other two elite ranks are arguably much easier.

After I get to 100% Deadly then I will become Elite? Will I have to get to 100% Elite or am I good to go the day I make it to Elite?

Greetings,

Here's some info you may know. Then others reading this thread also looking for similar answers may not know. I try to cover the bases.

Any progression with Combat, Trade and/or Explorer Elite and also Federation and Military rankings are completed once the top tier is reached with no additional requirements. So as you suggested 100% Deadly = Elite. You're done. Any of the three Elite ratings will obtain the permit to Shinrarta Dezhra (also listed in the galaxy map as a Founders World) where Lori Jameson is located.

Note military rankings open permits to other systems as well as unlocking higher level ships for purchase. Working the factions for the Alliance, which does not have military rankings, will open a permit to Alioth which has an Engineer.

Trade Elite requires basically making one billion credits in Trading. This can be accomplished with bulk trading, cargo missions, mining and passenger transport missions. Explorer Elite once required 145 million credits in cartographic data sales. But exploration has been "balanced" several times so that number may no longer be correct. It can also be accomplished with passenger sightseeing missions.

The second requirement for Lori is the combat rating of Dangerous or better which you already have.

The third requirement is to deliver 25 units of Kongga Ale to Lori.

Lori is regarded as the most time consuming engineering unlock in the game especially if grinding for it. Better to just play the game and let it complete in time. Luckily what she offers is more 'icing on the cake" versus major engineering upgrades to weapons, shields and propulsion. Explorers like the grade 4 lightweight Life Support.

Combat increases by points based on the combat rating of the opponent. If you and your enemy have the same combat rating, you destroy the enemy ship, then you get one point. If your enemy is higher then you get more. Lower less. Being Dangerous you would get zero points for any enemy Novice or less.

The Elite Dangerous Fandom Wiki can answer a lot of questions in more detail. Here is their Combat link with the Elite points chart.

Google "Elite Dangerous Wiki whatever..." often gets specific results.

Regards

I think my dumb questions about the basic ranking system are appropriate for the newcomers forum.

There is nothing I really need from her any way. Fuel scoops would be nice and a frame shift wake scanner I'd love to get, but no great loss.

I was all excited over nothing.

The only engineering option for Fuel Scoops is Shielded which does make them less damage sensitive but increases power consumption, I doubt it is a popular choice.

I added the shielded fuel scoop with explorer ships if I have the power reserve but really not important. What enemy is going to target the fuel scoop? As for the Frame Shift Wake Scanner grade 5 long range with Tiana Fortune at Archenar is so much more useful in my game play. Park 'n scan without flying all over the place.

Yeah, apparently it's not entirely obvious to Frontier that at least one engineering option of every module should improve its primary function.

I don't engineer fuel scoops any more. The heat build up when scooping is off putting. Class A is good enough for me.

The only useful thing that only Lori has is grade 4 lightweight life support. You can have grade 3 elsewhere and the difference in weight is small.

Currently there are ways to become Elite in Trading or Exploration way easier than in Combat. For example, equip a Python with economy passenger cabins, size 5 at most (6 is useless for this), make it lightweight and engineer the FSD to have over 30 ly jump (not mandatory, but this will make you gain time) and go to Robigo Mines for sightseeing adventures passenger missions to Sirius Atmospherics. Choose first rep/inf as rewards and after you become allied with the factions you can choose the money. Some 25% of those money you gain will go automatically towards the Exploration rank. Probably in a week of playing or less you can become Elite in Exploration without really exploring and also get rich.

As an alternative, equip a ship for core mining (blasting asteroids) and mine for Void Opals (there are some tutorials on youtube). This way you can become Elite in Trading in about the same time or even less.

The Elite status is useful because you will have access to Jameson Memorial, a station in Shinrarta that has all the modules and ships. And with a 10% discount.

Go mine a bit and become Trade Elite in a few hours. The credits you gain along the way are also useful :)
