Loss of merits

It was day 5 I was promoted I mistakenly thought it was day 4 but either way it was before day 7, anyways I logged out early about 4am on day 5 and was level 1 with over 10k of merits, i took a screenshot to show a friend I had amassed over 10,000 merits already as he wanted proof, logged in later the same day after some sleep and noticed I was level 5 which was confusing so I posted it support and they explained why everyone was promoted early, i.e. day 5 not day 7, because of cycle being on Thursdays,
Then not automatically receiving the bonus had me troubled, but after some very useful information in this thread it is now all sorted and less confusing,

You're welcome Out of curiosity, how did you earn your merits? Was it a variety? Or mostly combat? Or something else?

you say it was before day 7, but it shows how many days you have been aligned for, not the current day of the current cycle. Did you sign to a power on the very first day of PP being released? if not then your 5th day of being aligned was probably the day the first cycle ticked over 1 day too early (Thursday 11th).

I was using a three system trade route, worked out my overall profit which was just over 600,000, I would get the free merit chits, and buy 500,000 worth of advancement merit chits, so boosting my merits whilst still making a bit of profit each circuit I did, profits vary on the different systems that required chits, so sometime I would get less extra chits, sometimes I would get more, but that's the way I boosted them without losing any from my bank,

Thanks I'm more a combat flier, but I do have a Python I could use for trading, so might try and find a route which gives those sorts of numbers. How many hours in game do you reckon it took per, say, 1k merits?

Yes, I was one jump away from capital after powerplay patch was installed, so within minutes after logging in I was joining the faction, mainly because it was right next door and yes that's the case, the cycle was 5 days after patch, not seven days after patch which would have been better.

my route took an average of 26 - 29 minutes so didn't have to wait long for next lot of free chits, I even extended the route to be as close to 29 minutes as possible, so less waiting for the free ones

It took about 5 hours for 1000 merits, to answer your question, sorry misread and answering other question
