Lost in Space - Playing again after 2.5 years. Had to quit during DW2.

Hi, logged in for the first time since March 2019. Had to quit during Distant Worlds 2. Barely remember how to play the game. Brought up galactic map, and there is not much near me. I'd like to get back to the bubble with my ship intact. Outside of re-learning how to fly, and spending likely weeks getting back, are there other transport options? I hear there are fleet carriers, or maybe new stations out in the middle of nowhere, so I can at least dock.

Trying to even remember how to find the nearest populated system.

So, I guess my question is. Is there a safe shortcut home?

How much money do you have and where did you dock last. If you self destruct you can use the rebuy function and see where you end up, you will only lose any accumulated exploration data. If you want to save that then there are FC's almost everywhere, look up the DSSA network.

You can use this map to bring up the overlays, top right hand corner, that will show you where all the DSSA carriers and other megaships are. There's also a station near Sag A* if you are anywhere near the core.

Thanks. I guess I'll work my way to a fleet carrier. But now my problem is my galaxy map locks up. First it was trying to route way too far. Then I think i selected a nearby system, and it routes fairly quicly, but still locks up in galaxy map. I'll search the forums for this symptom. Yea, I'd like save my ship and research. I have about 500 million credits, and a bunch of research I was hoping to turn in when (if) I get back. If I can get the galaxy map not to lock up, I think i can figure out how to make it 1600 ly to a carrier. I'm in a pretty lame ship that's pretty beat up. I hadn't been playing long when DW2 started, and had to join with the best ship I could put together on my budget.

Not had that yet, make sure to turn off all filters in case they are causing an issue and that routing is set to fastest not economical.

Thanks all. I've made it the 1600 LY to Explorer's Rest. Don't have auto-landing equipment as I ditched it for other things. Created another account to practice approach and landing. Of course, the second I popped into that system, had an interdiction attempt, which I easily avoided. I'm going to google around for how to engage a Fleet Carrier, though with only a 500LY jump, I imagine it's still a bit of effort to get all the way back to the bubble. I'll look in other parts of the forum for that information. I could have gotten to explorer' rest sooner, but had to FSS each system along the way. I didn't bother with any planetary landing, but did stop and DSS life-bearing planets. Only ran into a few earthlike and/or terraformable along the way. Remembering how to DSS efficiently took a few tries. So much of it was muscle memory before. Also, almost ran out of air waiting for my life support to repair. Didn't remember or notice that it shuts off for repair and doesn't turn back on automatically. Had gone up for coffee to come back to a gasping CMDR.
