Lost my cockpit, twice...

Has anyone ever had a game "crash" where the foreground graphics disappear and you only have background visible? No cockpit, no text or HUD; only space and/or planet surface, and smoke/explosions/sparks - oh - and the centre radar screen but it's blank.. Continues like this if you quit out to the menu (i.e. you can't see the menus either, you have to guess).

It's happened to me twice now, with nothing in particular seeming to be responsible. I'm latest Odyssey, Windows 11 24H2, Steam-based. I allow the overlay in Steam options, but haven't used it.

i would try either upgrading or sometimes even downgrading your gpu driver using its clean install method if it becomes too regular for comfort
i have heard of this before on this forum but cant remember who the op was..........

I saw this bug report earlier in the year which sounds like the same issue - it was closed by FDev and a support ticket opened instead, so no clue as to what was causing it.

... and with VSYNC “on” you also have the problem or other problems ?

As far as I know, VSYNC “on” prevents screen tearing (tearing of images/frames). This often happens with “weak” graphics cards when they are pushed to the limit. If you have a very powerful graphics card, so VSYNC “on” will not cause any problems in my opinion. Otherwise, I would lower the graphics settings and see if the problem persists.
I have an RTX2070 (so not as powerful), VSYNC “on” and use medium settings. I have never had this problem.

I have a 4070 Super. I don't see any tearing... but I'll try VSYNC and see what it's like. I'm running a 165Hz monitor so likely won't be able to tell the difference in terms of smoothness.

OK - ignore that; I tried it. It all works great and thank you all for pointing out the error of my ways; I have no idea how VSYNC being off causes that particular issue; (to be fair I don't know if it's fixed) but I was always told "VSYNC bad, let the frames run free!!!" so I'm glad I tried this :)
