Newcomer / Intro Lost my shields. They are red and not blue

I noticed when I left the Station my shields were 2 rings of red instead of the normal 3 rings of blue.
I am in a Cobra and I turned some of my Internal bays into cargo bays. I did take out shield boosters but didn't do anything with the shields themselves. I must have changed something on the Internal storage, but I don't know what it was.
What should I be checking for?
Thanks

Sounds like you you need pips to SYS to charge them.

Or you accidentally sold your shield generator, maybe replaced it with one too small.

Check to see if you have power useage problems or you switch off the Shield Generators by mistake, you might of pressed the silent running button by accident ( it will say Silent running over your fuel on the right in blue, just press it again to switch it off if that's the case.

What are pips?

Dear dreaux,

we will gladly help you. But may I suggest you read the manual first, and try the tutorials as well? Then it will be easier to explain the details.

pips = 'focus points' for energy distribution
'red' shield = either your shield has been depleted and is currently trying to recharge. But you need to charge it through the disributor - therefore put 'pips' to sys, please
or you have accidentally sold your shield generator and replaced it with cargo racks. So no shield at all ...

Fly safe, CMDR!

"Pips" are the small dots under the power management part of your cockpit display (where it says SYS, ENG and WEP); adding more "pips" to SYS means your shields (and other systems) will recharge faster. If there is no power routed to SYS and there is no more charge left in its capacitor (the horizontal bars in that display) -- your shields will not recharge.

Also -- the reason why you seem to "lost" a ring of shields is most likely due to the fact that you took out the shield boosters. Just add more power to SYS and you should be fine.

If the shield still refuses to fully recharge I would sell the module, relog (close the game and start it again) and put it back. That should fix any gremlins left in the system. ;)

P.S.: http://coriolis.io is a great site to try out (and store) different loadouts; it can also help you understand how modules affect your ship and to practice power management!

Thanks all is well now. For some reason I took out the shield Generator when putting in a cargo bay. Just put it back in the load out and I have my shields.
I really have read the tutorial well as the training exercises. Am now watching endless hours of Youtube videos on Elite.
