Lost SRV - lost Data?

Good day commanders!

I am on a long-distance research expedition. I lost the SRV on the planet. The ship is ok and the SRV was lost. I was teleported to the ship.

Did I lose my research on planets and biology?

Thank you very much everyone for the answers to all calm and safe flights!

Thanks for answering. even if i died inside srv?
Even if you died in the SRV.

I thought I'd been losing exobiology data when I lost my SRV (which happened fairly regularly :D ), though it was a while ago so maybe my memory is flawed.

IF you die, you get the rebuy screen that details what you just lost.
If, following the "death" in the srv, you just teleported to the ship in orbit, without getting through the rebuy screen - you haven't lost anything

However, dying on foot* or inside the ship will definitely get you to lose everything (exploration data, exobiology data, cargo, bounty vouchers, basically everything EXCEPT combat bonds... which apparently are like the thing that comes back with you from Vegas)

Edit: dying on foot will not cause you to lose exploration data (which gets stored in your ship)

Does this refer to death inside srv? I don't remember what was on the objection screen. However, the ship is definitely intact. thank you..Thank you.

thanks for the answer. I hope such cases will be rare.thanks for the answer. I hope such cases will be rare.

In Horizons, you cannot die in your SRV because you are not in your SRV (telepresence). In Odyssey, it is different in that you are physcially in your SRV for real. If you die in your SRV, you are dead and you lose all your pending exobilogy data. If you die on foot (not in SRV, not in your ship) you lose your exobilogy data. If you die in your ship, you lose all your exobiology data. As for cartography data, nothing has changed. The only way you lose your carto is if your ship is destroyed.

It can be a bit frustrating having your SRV destroyed at pretty much no fault of your own. Recently I was exploring a Guardian site, and I always drive quite carefully without taking any risks. However, at one point one of those columns triggered and started raising from the ground, and suddenly my SRV just got destroyed. I think it got stuck between the raising column and some wall, getting destroyed. There was nothing I could do, as it happened very quickly.

And then the only thing I could do is to go back to the bubble to get a new SRV, and then go back.

This is one of those adventures that should teach us that sometimes it's better to sacrifice a bit of jump range and pack a size 4 hangar to have a spare SRV

Or invest to an FC. Then you have on board Cartographic and Vista Genomics to sell your data. I never go to an long journey without my FC. It also helps sometimes to land on mountaneous planets to use my Imperial Eagle instead of Krait Phanpom.

Having a FC helps indeed.
But it's not always practical to drag a FC after you anywhere you go.

Guardian sites? I'd rather go there in a DBX (or even a Phantom) with 70ly jump range and a size 4 hangar packing 2 Srv
Crystalline Shards? Same

So, going deep into exploration, for a longer duration, might make sense to have a carrier in tow.
however, i woudn't bother for shorter trips

Indeed at least in Horizons, which is all we get in "legacy" mode, thankfully you don't lose anything except for the actual SRV when it is destroyed or completely stuck and you have to selfdestruct it...

Indeed whenever I travel somewhere within the game and plan to collect materials from SRV driving or just feel like exploring, I always make sure to bring at least two SRV should one be destroyed.

I've only actually needed a second SRV once, but I was glad I had a spare one - it was on the longest exploration journey I've taken yet, going 8,000 ly out and back...

My first SRV got its' wheels stuck under a planets' surface and logging out and back in and anything else I tried wouldn't shift it.

I was 99% certain that if an SRV was destroyed, even if I had to selfdestruct it, that I wouldn't actually die, as IF you did, why let you take more than one, while you don't die if you're in a ship launched fighter when it's destroyed - you just spawn back on your ship, minus one fighter! 🤔😀 .

I wasn't so confident that I wouldn't lose any collected materials or data if I had to selfdestruct, but was almost certain that I wouldn't...

I checked exactly what materials and data I had before selfdestructing and thankfully I had the same amount when I spawned back on my ship! 😀 .

Anyway, long story short, you lose nothing but the SRV and the up to two units of cargo that you may have been carrying and couldn't transfer to your ship when an SRV is destroyed, so like fresh underwear - always bring some to spare! 😯😂😀🤘.

thank you all so much for your replies.if interesting the result of death along with srv is as follows:
data on open systems and cosmic bodies are not lost.
"first step" and biology - data lost"first step" and biology - data lost

Just to 100% clarify; I lost my SRV (because I fell asleep in real life and it ran out of fuel and exploded!) and I lost ALL my exobiology data, ALL my codex discovery bonuses (and these were gained from ship scanning!) AND all my on-foot combat bounties. I am (hoping!) presuming my ship scanned system data is safe however. Will have to see when I get back to the bubble...
