Low GPU utilization

Almost 1 week since the April update launched. Weak graphics performance since the update is from low gpu utilization. Lowering FX settings is just a band-aid to cover the fact that game won't solicit and make full use of available GPU power.

Why is the game still on this buggy version. Why can't FD revert back to the previous version until they can fix this? Random module priority reset is also game breaking. This new update is awful.

Hopefully they'll put out a patch next week, at least they've acknowledged some of the issues..

Kind of expect the odd mistake in any release but certainly some unexpectedly big oopses on this one :/
I personally loved having fire group bindings messed up.

Beta next time?...

Yeah, I'm basically on a break until it's patched out.

Having my power priorities reset to 1 is lethal, especially in AX or PvP in a power hungry ship.
And the game looks really odd with FX off. Lol

Which is fine by me really, because I've just signed up for imperial hammers, so not playing the game is exactly how PowerPlay is supposed to work. Lol

Most of the bugs released seems to have passed me by, but I'm coming back from BP & it'll be a few days b4 I return to civvy space.
Fortunately the 1 priority bug doesn't affect me as all my modules on at priority 1 setting doesn't take me over 100% power.
Codex bugs, I'm not bothering looking at that thing & haven't for months.
Canopy integrity down by half, slight concern on that one, but only likely now to have a mishap on the canopy by hitting a WD.

Maybe by the time I return, all the bugs will be resolved.......well maybe half of them!........well maybe a few!....well maybe 1or 2!.......well maybe 0 & a few more added!!!

It's the trails which get enabled by turning FX on, the higher the setting the more they show etc.
I was in an instance last night with 21 other CMDrs, FX high and game was smooth as butter.

I used the graphics override file to set the trails to zero and fx low, med and high setting.

This means you see everything else looking fine, just no trails

I don't know what you are on about - my GPU load has gone up since the update. CPU load is minimal but my GPU card fan now runs just about all of the time E D is running as opposed to only occasionally before.

Will they ever give us an option for a less GPU intensive hanger/station ? My GPU temps rise above 70c every time I sit in the space station port or hanger. One of the other games I play had this same issue and the developers gave us an option for a plain graduated gray "place" to look at our vehicles (no, garage tools, vehicles, etc. however the temps only drop 15 to 25c - but good enough) . ... wish FD would offer this as a graphics option.

I'm talking about the attached. This is from sitting in the hangar looking around with my rift. I run VR ultra settings with SS down to 1.0 and HMD resolution up to 1.5. Why is my Vega 56 randomly dropping to ~800mhz when the framerate drops? Shouldn't it be clocking up if it's struggling to keep the fps up? It's not temp throttling because that happens at 85c.

And so...…..what's going to happen above 70c?

By over 70c do you really mean 85 degrees or even 90 degrees on an older card?

70 degrees Celsius. It occassionally pops up over 75C for short periods. No other game or software I have pushes the GPU temp this high. Early on Armored Warfare had this issue but provided an option to cool things down.

I'm not a GPU expert by any means. I have an older GeForce GTX 960. It still handles my needs to far. One day I'll buy another gaming computer and get the best I can get at that time. This 960 was the best GPU the shop had when I bought it.

Hope that helps

... however, what did it do before the update? Are you saying that a program is rubbish if your GPU isn't glowing white hot? ;)

Are you saying that you are having frame-rate issues but that it isn't the GPU that is causing it?

Don't let 75 degrees worry you. Your GPU is perfectly fine.
The GTX 960 has a maximum temp of 98 degrees as stated by Nvidia in it's spec sheets.

It can run at 75 degrees with no ill effects. 98c (max allowed temp) will cause the card to throttle back a good bit to reduce heat. 100-105c = thermal shutdown, card will shutoff to save itself.

I play with all settings on Maximum, including FX (except AA, I have that off...I don't like AA) and have had zero issues since the patch, getting very good (100+) fps, mostly playing in CZ's for the past week. My video cards are good, but pretty old, two Nvidia 980 Ti's, and my GPU's are running about 70 degrees (C). That's warmer than most games I play, but well within the recommended range.

This occurs only since the update and doesn't happen with any other game. Someone already has a ticket concerning this same issue so I'm not the only one.

You know Vega cards tend to run hot right? Or perhaps you don't know this since you haven't had much useful knowledge to share on this thread so far.

Rather than software updates for your V-Card perhaps you all need an update:
I just purchased a new Gaming Laptop right before I started playing this game and Elite can't even make it grunt:
