Elite / Frontier Low Poly revamped Elite ships

Steve, have you done that!? That looks fantastic :)

Yep :D Thanks!

Now we're talking !

I do like your new version though with the rounder edges and what have you - I'd pay for someone to run round with a sander on my old rust bucket if it could look like that one which I will call a Cobra Mk 3.5 :D

Yeah - it does have a 'few years on' feel to it. It does make me wonder what timespan is going to be represented in E: D compared to Frontier and FFE.

Cheers buddy.

Now with the beginnings of main engines.

Right Steve, stop faffing about and get that model converted to either Oolite, Pioneer or FFE3D! :D

Or all 3 would be very nice indeed

:D Love it when you get all bossy :D

Is looking good though.

Yeah I guess it could do, I was more thinking that it can resemble a cobra hood more than it could in 8bit goodness.

I've done a little more - it's slow going because I think of something I'd like to do then I have to go away and learn the technique. The big ball thingy on the back is not permanent - it's just doodling.

I'm thinking that the aerial array needs to be a bit more thought out and the lasers could be a little more interesting but I've gotten over the first hurdle, modelling something on the front.

Thanks fella :D Maybe in a year or so when it doesn't take me 3 days to turn out something that his modelers will be turning out in an hour or so... I'm sloooooooow.

Steve, I gotta admit it, that's very, very nicely done! What program are you using please? I'd like to try something similar, but don't know if I have the patience xD

Yikes!!! £3,480!!! I don't think I'll be trying that any time soon :(

Do you know of cheaper (good) alternatives? I know I can Google it, but I find recommendations always useful.

Blender is a free open source 3D modelling program:

http://www.blender.org/

It has plenty of support from around the web too.

You can also download a student/personal learning edition of 3DS Max from the Autodesk website. It's a fully functional version, the rules of the license being that it's for personal use only, you're not allowed to sell any models or animations you produce with the program.

Yeah you can download 3DS Max on trial for free over 30 days. If you have access to student licencing then you can get the entire Creation Suite for $250 USD.
