Lowest class shield on a Python?

No it doesn't have a Class 3 slot, the lowest you can go is Class 4.

Doh! I was thinking of the Anaconda sorry...

I think a class 3 is too low powered and you cant fit.

Class 4 works fine in class 4 slot if you are going to use the class 5 slot for cargo.

Class 4 doesn't hold long in combat though.

I was looking at shields for my Python yesterday, and produced a graphic

You're trading off cost, protection and also weight (hence jump range). Having seen the numbers, I swapped from a ( B6 shield + 32T cargo) to (A5 shield + 64T cargo). Similar protection, similar price, but I get 32T more cargo and the sheild weight goes down from 64T to 20T so overall I get more cargo and more jump distance.

I bought my first Python last night for trading, and put an A3 shield generator on it. I was worried about how well it'd stand up to my awful piloting and interdictions, so I did a quick trade run and some heat tests.

A3 shield on the Python seems to give better protection than the A4 shield gave my old T7. I bashed into various walls, toastered myself for a few seconds and landed miserably, but lost no shield rings. I was interdicted by an Eagle too, which normally would have taken a bar off my T7's shield before I escaped, but again the Python's shield was unaffected. The Python has a lower hull mass than the T7, so I guess that's the reason.

Also, in case it's helpful, I decided that the Python starts taking heat damage at ~135% heat.

I stand (sit?) corrected. Not sure a class 3 is going to do much beyond saving you repair costs on docking though.

I have just equipped my python with A4 shields. plan on it being my trade vessel that i can go strait to combat with when my friends want me to come pvp. I will give an update on how well they hold up in a while once i have had time to test them. A3 shields were great for trading. i sat in the doorway to a spaceport and banged myself up and down a few times. smoked a few npc ships. The A3 shields are more than enough for trading.

Pre nerf yes, Post nerf no. Python shields are still strong but no where near as strong now as before the nerf.

Actually while it was a big change the A3 is still only a very small margin below a 7E and slightly above a 6D, it really is quite strong for the smallest shield available.

A python can fit down to a class 3 shield generator. I usually use an A3 shield generator while trading but it wont stand up in combat.
