Lugh and RES sites

First off this not a whinge, just an observation (ok maybe a slight whinge) Am mainly an explorer/trader, but have been involved in combat every now and then since early beta, more so now since wings.

SSS is the only difficult combat in this game, with the exception of finding other good cmdr's to fight.

Keep reading about the Lugh conflict, decided to head over and take a look at a high conflict zone around the 11th planet. Left my heavy hitters at base and changed into a Viper. Signed up and ended up playing what could only be described as level 1 from space invaders for an hour...

Why is combat in these war zones/RES sites so easy? Am not blowing my own trumpet saying I am Chuck Yeager.. This is just too easy.. The Warzone is not actually a war zone, it is an arcade game on easy mode. I made 300,000c not a scratch on my Viper taking on Conda's,Python's,Asp and Vipers.. Not one scratch...

I hear people say trading/exploring is easy, these warzones are way easier, no thinking required, just lock the target start firing, no risk involved, no challenge. At least in trading/exploring initial planning is required.

Have the devs commented on why the game is like this? Why not make the low intensity easy mode, and high intensity a fight for your life?

Am not trying to bash the lugh event or FD, I see many are having fun, but something should be done about the difficulty level, this seems to be a deliberate choice to make these events into a brainless shoot em up.

If you want more challenge.... goto the 11th planet and fight for the CSG AGAINST the cap ship

You are missing the point completely. it is not about numbers, it is about the AI being on easy mode. No matter what side i fight for, the 'combat should be difficult'

Perhaps I was unlucky with spawns, but the AI is spawning low ranking ships on both sides. Am heading back in 30 mins before going to home base, will look out for Elite ships. This is a warzone, why are they not sending in the best combat pilots to fight?

try to remember that it is a game, not everyone wants to get their butts kicks or ship destroyed. I like Lugh, it lets me "play" and make some coin so when harder challenges come up I have money to replace my ship. Each to his own.

Yes of course I understand that, and glad you are enjoying the event. Am not trying to bash anything, just when I hear the word 'Warzone' I don't expect to play space invaders for hours on end. They could easily have different level's of difficulty, high intensity is hard, low intensity for guy's like you that want it easy.

Strong/weak sources are a perfect example of how they can balance the game well.

the thing is that u go to capital warzone...try other heavy zone maybe u found it harder;p

If you spend enough time in a CZ, you will get caught by a wing, or just a bunch of angry opponents. I've been in them steadily and things can get scary every now and then. I've noticed that if I make enough trouble they will gang up on me. Even so, I could get behind toughening up the higher ranked NPC's.

I was out in Lugh this morning but there was a decent mix to fight from Eagles up to Anacondas. But I agree they're not too difficult 1vs1, never lost my shields in the time I was there though did get taken down to one ring, maybe because I like to get point-blank with ships in the Vulture and against Pythons etc you're gonna take some hits when flying like that.

One thing I've noticed is the number of times you can be blasting away at one of the smaller ships and they're too preoccupied to pay you any attention and fight back.

Agree that HI zones should be more difficult than LI zones.

I think that is the main problem, the ships are too busy fighting other NPC's, I take on Conda's and Pythons, they will shoot at me once or twice but carry on blasting other ships. My shields never went down once.

Warzone to me means fighting for your life. It is the same with RES sites, so many cops everywhere, it makes the kills too easy.

The 1V1 I had with Vipers & Cobra's was also too easy, in stark contrst, while jumping the 60LY to Lugh, i was interdicted by a very high ranking NPC in a Viper, we had a proper fight, still fairly easy, but he got a few of my shield rings down at least and he was tough to kill

Have to agree with the OP a bit.....I am reminded of my "football coach"/PE teacher when I was very young and in school....
.
He was once explaining to us, what we looked like when playing........95% of the field empty, with a cluster of 20 kids no more than 20ft from the ball.......if the ball escaped, the "ball of kids" headed over to the ball and carried on kicking in all directions.............no skill, no finese'........just a really small furball wherever we went.........

I've found generally, the AI are preoccupied with each other so you can vulture a load of kills. If one turns on you, it generally isn't enough and you can switch targets and take them out.

Occasionally, you get painted as the target and you get a lot of them attacking you. If this happens, you actually do lose your shield in seconds. Against one target, the Dangerous+ Pythons and Condas actually can do a reasonably good job of keeping you shot at, but often they are mugged by you & your faction NPCs and can't handle it.

It's mostly because the friendly AI distracting that makes them easier.

AI is fine, but game is unbalancing in some aspects. Lugh 11 is exactly that kind of place where you shouldn't judge entire game. Take another one without Cap-ship and try it. Still easy? Turn off assist and try it. Still easy? Take an eagle. Challenge is always there you just need to accept it.

I took my Vulture and went to regular Conflict zone. Spend there an hour, get lots of fun, lots of credits until i realize that i dont need to kill any ship, just mark it. Still killing the ship until last hit to be fair with myself. After a hour i was sure this is too easy on vulture, but next fight was really though. I was under the heavy attack by several fighters, lost my shield and was forced to leave the battlefield to save my life! And that was awesome! Really like it. So it could be challenging anyway.

Thanks, I'll try this. Have done many warzones in the past, are you saying it is more difficult now since 1.2? Haven't tried other areas since the latest update

Cheers

Dude,I fly with assist off 99% of the time, even on my big frieghters. I also take my Eagle to res sites for kicks. You can clearly see the combat ranks of the AI, it doesn't scale properly, they are incredibly easy until they get near Elite rank, then they start kicking butt.

All I am saying is make the big warzones full of high ranking battle hardened pilots, keep the low intensity for the rest. Everyone is happy.

In no way am i claiming to be a hot shot combat pilot, so it amazes me that any pure combat cmdr would have any fun at all in a warzone. It's just point.. shoot.. next

I'm enjoying Lugh - i hope it doesn't end before I get more opportunities to play.

Its perfect for those of us that are rubbish at combat. I can blaze away happily, and with all the madness going on around me, I'm fairly safe because I'm nobody's target for long enough for them to finish me off. Plus it pays reasonably well....not nearly as good as trading of course, but I can make a couple of million in an evening's session.

Its putting money in my pocket, I'm improving my combat skills, and it looks and feels like a scene from Return of the Jedi and/or the last starfighter - great stuff!

Went to a light warzone last night, chose CSG side. Got my shields and 50% of my hull handed to me by 2 PCs,probably in a wing, I don't know, I didn't check, I was too busy trying to make it out alive. Was short but fun. Then I went to bed, too old for this......

RES is to easy, lots of cops. They are unbalancing too.
Dangerous, Masters in warzones mostly for me. There is not enough challenge for your eagle?

It is a difficult balance..... i find the current mechanic on shielding slightly taints the immersion .... IF you happen to find youself the target of a decent wing of players and you're shields are taken down then you're left with little option but to bug out since they take (on a vulture) several minutes to even get back online let alone have any strength....

So you end up considering the option of jumping out and back in just 'rebuild' to carry on the fight ....

I think i'd like to see a more progressive shielding akin to StarTrek .... the Enterprise could take damage even with the shields still not at 0% .... so rather than having a universal bubble .... have quadrants (just 8 ... upper & lower port/aft/starbord/fore) so you could take a whack on one area and maybe start taking some hull/system damage but there ws a quicker time to get that quadrant back online and give the ability for evasive manouvers to help you protect that damaged quadrant

I find shields too on or off right now

Ok well thanks everyone, perhaps I shouldn't judge on just 1 hour in Lugh, perhaps I got a bad bunch of spawns. I'll take an Eagle next time, still it seems strange that I need my weakest combat ship in a warzone just to find a challenge. On the flip side it gives my Eagle a purpose now

Hey there 777D, good to see you again!

I also find this war zone VERY simple. My Vulture just cruised around for 2 hours taking out Elite wave after wave of fighters, from Vipers to Anacondas... Strange is that they seemed easier then their ranks suggested. Elite should be HARD, and they were easy. I even noticed their wings "squadrons" broke ranks after the leader began to take damage??? "Never leave you wing man soldier"!

I made 2.2 million credits, and broke the 40% tier by really just flying around, and never went down more then 1 shield ring, and I am a competent fighter. Granted there were many ships in the beginning, but this is war! Who sends in a squad of six fighters at a time against a large destroyer and more then triple of small fighters???? I thought maybe the Vulture was TOO good (don't hate me peeps), so I bought and put some nice pulses on a Sidewinder and headed back to the war zone. It took longer and was a little more of a challenge in this little guy, but never felt in harms way. Sort of that feeling the first time I played DOOM in God mode!
