General / Off-Topic lunar eclipse today.. dont wory, the shadow is there without one

eclipse today.

Western hemispheres, pretty much only the Americas and the world oceans.

Remember, dont stare directly at an eclipsed moon.

'For the first time in more than two years, Americans will have a chance to see a total lunar eclipse – an event made even more exciting by the fact that a very rare “blood moon” will also be viewable in the sky.

The lunar eclipse will begin early Tuesday morning at 12:53 a.m., when the Earth will start to move in between the sun and the moon. Once the moon becomes completely blanketed by the Earth’s shadow, however – around 3 a.m. – this eclipse will become even more interesting: the moon will be covered in a red or orange light."

The rotation period of the Moon is the same that its orbital period and therefore, it always presents the same hemisphere (called "visible side of the Moon") to a terrestrial observer (the other hemisphere is called the "dark side of the Moon "). This synchronous rotation resulting of the friction which resulted from the tides caused by the Earth to the Moon which gradually caused the Moon to slow its rotation on itself, until the period of this movement coincides with the revolution of the Moon around the Earth. Currently the tidal effects of the Moon on the Earth slow down rotation of the latter and provoke a slight estrangement between the two celestial bodies of about 3.78 cm per year. In fact, the Moon in its birth, orbited at a distance twice lesser than today and the Earth then turned on itself in 6 hours

Well, yes, that's why I commented on it... :p

Pretty much the only thing to notice, since I have no chance to notice the eclipse here in Finland...

Had an Awesome view of it here in Australia :)

Was a bit worried about the local Triffid Farm though...
