LostWinds [LW2 WiiWare] How do I enter the palace without the king?

Hi there,

I made it to the palace with the king and died at the final boss. Then I noticed, I didn't find one of the idols in the furnace room. So I left the king where we respawned after dying and made my way down.
After finding the idol, I can't seem to enter the palace again. :S
