Horizons Mac Users - You Have Been Duped

Frontier Developments - when are you going to come out clean with what level of support you are going to give to Mac users?

In game they are second class citizens, they are actively being discriminated against.

Although there are no technical issues that prevent development of the game for Mac, it has been effectively stalled. This is clear bait and switch. Unethical to say the least. The Mac foeums are full of data, idea, and tech analysis which proves the company is actively discriminating against a whole class of customers.

Stop hiding the fact that you are stooge for Microsoft when it comes to the game not being a level playing field on Macs.

It is fine for a company to partner with whomever they wish. No qualms here at all.

IT IS NOT OK for a company to actively keep deceiving their customers.
IT IS SAD that a company would do this to those who gave their enthusiastic support when the company needed it most.

Please do the right thing.

MACs are less than 5% of the PC market and even less when it comes to the gaming market.
Why should they invest time for such a small percentage of users?

Update: I guess I was wrong. They do sell a MAC version. Or at least they did.
No Horizons?

Yeah, it looks to me like it's Apple's problem for not including a proper graphics card in their machines.
Not sure why anyone would expect to be able to play decent games on a MAC unless they have a MAC Pro Desktop and install a proper graphics card.
Can you even do that? Do they even have a PCIe slot?
In any case, You can buy a high end PC for far less money.

Ya, Apple put a dev roadblock in, and ya there's slim pickins when it comes to Mac gaming machines. So I can see the logic with porting to 2 other platforms first (PS4 is not as easy as Xbone, Mac Horizons would be a similar development effort), but you gotta throw them a bone FD! I think an outcry (it happens anyway, as you can see lately) will be preferred over constantly being asked about Mac's future.

for example "Metal port is 1.5 - 3 years away, not considering development issues and possible refocusing of company efforts"

But I guess that has as much PR value as saying zip...

Back when I started multiplayer gaming proper, in 1999, I built my first PC. Quake 3 had just been launched and PC was the way to go. So glad I did, have built a number since. I'd used Macs professionally for a number of years by then and up until around 8 years ago when the bean counters and IT decided that PCs were better. I still use one for photography (editing etc) and I'm typing this out on that Mac (2011 MBP) and I'd still rather work on one.

The point I'm trying to make is the writing was on the wall back then (OS9 days) for Mac gaming; it was never going to be truly embraced in Cupertino despite any noises they made to the contrary back then and subsequently. If you've been duped by anyone, and I understand your grievance, I suspect Apple are more culpable than anyone else.

I don't even know how you could claim Apple duped anyone (not that I think you are by any stretch), they've never, ever, been a gaming platform in any meaningful capacity. I recall Jobs being quite against that direction of development, but I may be remebering it incorrectly.

They made such a statement, just that most don't like it. It was pretty much "we tried various alternatives, Horizons can't be done with Metal".

And now to watch the thread get locked for insinuating criminal behaviour on behalf of FD.

They also dropped support for 32-bit Windows and DX10 GPUs. It's unfortunate, but changing hardware support is part of the nature of software under ongoing development.

Never a good idea to dis the dead, but I blame Steve Jobs and his astronomical arrogance.

Like many say, if anything Frontier has gone beyond what many others would, Apple has been giving the roadblock, it has absolutely nothing to do with being stooges, but given your username, and recently created I have to question if you are actually wanting to solve the problem or just want to instigate something?
