Macro for Docking Request

Hey guys,
-
I am curious to know how many of us are using a macro for requesting docking in E: D, and what apps we are using to do it.
-
I personally use Voice Attack now on the command ‘Computer, request docking’, though I used to use my joystick software.
-
My macro does the following: 1, E, E, SPACE, S, SPACE, E, E, E, 1
-
Just to help others playing the macros; I have found that a pause and press time of 0.035s is the quickest you can get it and this only opens the contacts menu in the cockpit for a fraction of a second.
-
Are there any other ship functions that you guys use macros for?

I don't use macro's yet, but I've been thinking about installing some kind of macro software so I can macro a few things.
Docking request is one of them.

Power management is another.

Just need to find out what macro software supports binding on my HOTAS.

I've set up Voice Attack so I can give my ship instructions verbally. I have quite a few commands such as the Docking Permission one you mention, as well as things like "Battle Stations" which distributes power to weapons and shields and brings the hardpoints up, and quite a few more. Combat feels more fluid when you can say (for example) "Target Hostile, Max Weapon Power, Half Speed, Chaff, Afterburner" or whatever, and have them all done without pressing keys.

You can turn off some of the UI animations in the options menu if you want to speed up panels btw. I use a macro that opens the galaxy map, clicks navigation, then clicks in the box for me to type my destination as well. Some (insane) people have setup a bunch of systems to type in the destinations automatically but I am not a basement troll.

I'm using G13 for
Docking request (request pad, [delay] docking lights on, [longer delay], landing struts deployed),
Secure mooring (docking lights off, enter hanger since i have to to leave anyways, enter station services.)
Prep for departure after maglock release (vertical thrusters for "X" time, raise landing struts, all ahead 10% - hand over con)

I'm going to work on "config" modes next - Battle stations, rig for cruise/travel, defensive mode, etc.

I've got VoiceAttack but having issues with it working reliably for me.

I use my own app that comes with a handy "WaitForPixel" feature ;)

the "request docking" macro is pressing "E" until it detects the "Contacts" tab is being selected then sends keys Space, S, Space, Backspace

Maybe I haven't worked hard enough on this Docking request because I cant get it to work with VA. My problem seems to be that VA doesn't know where it is in the panel matrix, so it may do something unintended, ie: try to select a sub-target of the outpost...

I'd like to get as many people as possible to weigh in on the question of 'Tab Stops' if you wouldn't mind! :)

Interesting, this may actually be a reason for me to get back into the game, creating tools to address the peeves I have (repetitive and boring parts of the game).
Was years ago I did any DX and function exploring and hooking, but have of late been playing a bit with opencv.

Would probably be easiest and definitely least resource intensive and error prone to just to scan the memory, map data structures and hook certain library functions to trigger custom events and actions in the software, but what fun is that. Robotics and vision is an interesting topic and I've been looking for a justification to experiment with it. Augmenting (fixing) the game may be just that. Creating agent modules with sensing and contextual awareness for other things than making shareholders rich could also be rather fun. First order of business would be basic visual orientation and main feature detection (stars, stations and ships), then "macro" the interdiction avoidance (tracking and hitting the moving circle), followed by plot navigation using the galaxy map. Adding tactical decision making (e.g decision trees and statistical assessment supported by a feedback loops / recall) for dog fighting would also be a very interesting subject, both logically but also experimentally.

Watching u-tube vids for the sort of maneuvers that people find hardest to combat should prove a plentiful source for tactical ideas.

Thanks for shining the light on ED as a testbed for agent (I mean "macro") experimentation. Guess a hobby project like this could hold me over until the end of the year when the game hopefully has sufficient content and variety to stand on its own.

Eg. of macros; Press CTRL-T to engage trading mode to build up 5 degrees of insurance funding and leave the computer on for the night. Next day some daring play could be had for an hour or so until the insurance funds have depleted. CTRL-S to get it on trade runs to build up capital for new equipment and ships, in order to ... provide a foundation for ... actual play. CTRL-P to put it in patrol mode to scan and engage wanted criminals.. Just watching the agent act will be a blast. Really psyched now :p

I use VA to send hails to other Commanders. It can pick a random hail from a list of 5 at the mo, but it is quite easy to expand that list or to add more messages. Others use VA to plot routes to common destinations, I'm not quite that far into it yet.

I've setup one via the Saitek software for my X55 Rhino. Link is in my sig if anyone wanted to check it out.

Even though I have set it up though, I find I rarely use it.... old habits die hard it seems lol :)

I have a Logitech G110 keyboard. Not thought of using the macro functions. Anyone had experience with this keyboard or a similar one?

No, however when you have a binding for something you very rarely use like "eject all cargo", and none for something you use all the time like docking requests, then something is wrong.

OH! Feel the burn! Like the morning after a habanero burrito, extra beans.

(Seriously though: this)

Exactly this... I have 3 profiles in va depends on whether im in combat, flying or docking at station...

Most used macro is the docking req and docking mode, mostly just to make sure those pips are correct..

And also to switch trackIR on/off when docking/launch..

That va plugin is sooo handy.. I control my music volume, overall sound volume if I need to talk or pickup my phone while flying.. etc
