Maelstorm Cloud Core question

Anyone try swan diving into it using the Shutdown Field Neutralizer right before the core bumps you?

Just got the idea but I'm nowhere near my spaceship and don't really feel like flying out there again. o7

been in a maelstrom, popped some of the things that release the corrosive gas, but couldnt get to the center due to the corrosion.
i should probably adjust the build of that Cutter i was using.

Try this ship. I was pretty much untouchable with it.

I could fly around for quite a while in the cloud too and collect some mats.

yea, forgot about that...
In which case i will get in some guardian hull modules - will check if mixing them will help

I went for a small and cheap option, this was fine for going in to the centre, getting bounced by the forcefield and coming out again:

Imperial Courier

Once out can use the plasma accelerators to overheat and burn off caustic effect.

I assume someone's tried carrying Thargoid sensors etc in with them to see if they get you in through the forcefield?

Something has to unlock the thing unless it's just another scripted GalNet "event" or cutscene.
D2EAstro tried relics and other odds and ends but nothing happened. Last I saw him he was
trying to gather a Thargoid heart with varied levels of success to try out.

Didn't stick around for that. We will see..

I would assume that dealing with the maelstrom would mean a large number of commanders - at least several wings sweeping out the cloud and killing all the stuff that is releasing the corrosive gas, plus at least another wing or 2 to deal with the occasional interceptor that appears in the cloud in case they get agro (i stumbled over 2 cyclops, i even managed to scan one, and it ignored me completely)

Maybe a HUGE number of commando's. That thing is gigantic and must have hundreds of those mine things floating around.
Plus you can't see crap in there or stick around for too long. I'm thinking it's not one thing it needs but a complicated "just right combination" of things.
Or if a crap-ton of ships simultaneously start blasting it with the AX missiles it could go pop. Have fun organizing that..

iirc i've seen reports of it being like 180km wide?
not that big if you ask me, but still big.

See, had I been coming up with this, I'd have instead had it so the caustic damage exponentially increases towards the core, and calculate it based off a fully engineered ship with those new caustic sinks, so that at the extreme end it was possible to get just barely close enough to see a low detail placeholder asset in the distance before being destroyed, which could be replaced with a finished version in a future patch that also adds engineering options to improve the sinks, making it possible to get all the way in.

Indeed, i assume it's a work in progress currently and it will unfold at a rate controlled entirely by FD
Lots of new engineering materials, so yea - i would assume they will be put to use in the future updates
