Maelstrom source(s)?

Apologies if this is best served elsewhere or has already been beaten to death but...

Have we been able to back-track the maelstroms' route travelling to the bubble? Is there any info about searching for their origin systems?

People searched the trajectories, nothing ever came of it. First UIA was assumed to originate in a permit locked region associated with permanent Thargoid territory, the others started popping up rather randomly, for example in the Elysian Shore. They all came from hundreds if not thousands of LY below the galactic plane, possibly from extragalactic space.
