I was exploring the Maelstrom Taranis today when I was hit by the massive energy surge within the centre.

My ship registered a massive surge energy signal that is now among my inventory of encoded materials. But that was not the most strange of all. I always take pictures when I fly to tell my adventures in Inara, and I was doing so when I captured something strange while my Cutter was being shaken by the explossion.

I do not know what it is. It could be one of the mines inside. Or a Thargoid Interceptor, but there was no one nearby.

I am sharing the picture here with the community in case someone might have any idea what it could be.

I took many pictures and the object just appears in one of them. I was pressing F10 fast to capture the moment of the energy surge and I did not see anything unusual. But I found this when reviewing the pictures.

I believe that @Sublime could be right.
I have gotten close and/or touched the caustic generators several times but wasn't fortunate enough to actually get a close look at them.
Thank you for posting the picture, Jav! It's fascinating.

Cool pic, but yeah, suspect it's a caustic generator up close given the jagged, unnatural "low detail" shape on what's otherwise a very organic looking texture.... suggests it's very zoomed in.
