Maintenance cost??

Have you actually checked the repairs section when you are at the starport ? Wear 'n tear isn't fixed from the starport services homescreen - you have to go looking for it !

I suspect it's at 100% by now I'm getting ~4k CR bills when I check for my mostly kitted out Adder - normally around the 60% wear mark - which doesn't seem too unreasonable.

Occasionally I click over there by accident, a handful of times. Every time in memory, the only thing listed as needing repair is the paint job for ten credits. o.o; Next time I'm on, I'll check my Type 6, see if it has any gremlins building up in the engine room.

Wear and tear costs on my Cobra appear to be about 3500cr per % point. The rate at which it needs doing seems to change. I went on an exploration trip across the galaxy scanning every system I entered supercruising around. I made about 200k in exploration profits but along the way I had 2 bills for around 35k (not 3.5k!) for wear and tear( not hull damage etc) of about 11%.
