Horizons Major problem with simple mission

Hmm. I seem to recall a problem in earlier builds whereby if you had a station targeted through the Nav panel, but also had another ship targeted through the target selection bindings, it would prevent the Safe Disengage feature from working even if the speed and distance were correct. You'd shoot past the Nav target and drop out at a very long distance if you pressed the SC exit button.

I thought this had been fixed but it sounds very similar to what the OP describes. Maybe the bug is still there (or came back) and I don't see it because I got used to deselecting weapons targets when approaching a Nav target. I'm not able to test the game right now but I'll give it a go when I'm next at the PC, unless someone can verify or refute this theory in the meantime.

But AFAIK, stations are static pois, while missions are not, if you fail disengaging the FSD in the signal, it just vanishes as if you drop of supercruise to normal space. Stations however, as they are persistent would still be there.

Well I did say "similar to" and not "exactly like."

Anyway I've had a quick go in the game and can confirm that this bug has not resurfaced. It is possible to use Safe Disengage to arrive at a Nav target while also having a combat target selected. So whatever is happening to the OP, it's not that.

Having looked at his postings, especially the last one, it seems as though the problem may be one of two things (or possibly the two in combination):

  • Failure to target the signal source correctly.
  • Failure to slow down sufficiently, or get close enough, for the Safe Disengage feature to activate.
As you say, the contents of signal sources do not exist until the player successfully enters one, nor do they persist in normal space if the player exits supercruise at an arbitrary location. The OP's description of the target "flying past" strongly suggests that they're not travelling slow enough for a targeted disengage.

Having said that, the same Safe Disengage mechanic is used at stations and outposts and we know the OP isn't having trouble with those otherwise he wouldn't be able to dock and pick up these missions in the first place (unless he's flying hundreds of kilometres in normal space for every docking, in which case he has the patience of a saint).

OP, if you're sure you're doing both of these things correctly (targeting and speed/distance management) is there any chance you can upload a video so we can see exactly what you're seeing?
