Make an ingame hardware BENCHMARK

Most of the respectable games out there have some sort of benchmark with fixed environments on different settings.

You are missing out FDev, that benchmark could make hardware/gpu reviewers use it for their videos/articles.

It will give the game more exposure and probably will attract more players.

Max setting (including SS 2.0) are pretty taxing even on a good system, if you do it with some fixed presets inside some busy stations, inside a busy CZ, inside a RES and on a couple of planet surfaces would be good enough.

I mean, i know this wouldn't be a priority but think long term.

Benchmarking brings not only positive stuff.
Look at Ashes of Singularity, does anyone actually play it? Then there's the profile of the game, is it CPU or GPU bound, is that a problem? Is that something FDevs should spend time on "fixing"?

Benchmarkers are generally min/maxers, that brings hyperbole with it. If one big benchmarker says that ED engine sucks, what would the consequence be for the game? Would people avoid it?

From what I've seen, I get pretty much 120 FPS most of the time with a Radeon 290X and a Ryzen 1700. So pretty darn good for the hardware and GPU is pinned at 100% just as you want it. Running a mix of ultra and high IIRC. I do use Reshade as well.

Could you clarify what you mean by "think longterm"? Updates to the game 4 years after release is pretty longterm to me. Graphics 'need' (nicer graphics is always nicer) upgrades and those are coming for lighting and planets as I understand it.

On top of that, the people who benchmark make their own benchmarks very often. I think Far Cry 4 is one such example. You start logging FPS which is saved in .CSV-mode and plot a graph with some program. Usually the scene used is the first action scene in FC4. So no one is stopping people from doing it with ED.

FDev, take the "FINAL FANTASY XV" benchmark for example.

The game isn't even out yet but everyone is running this new benchmark and comparing their performance.

I didn't even know that FF XV will exist until i saw the benchmark on some hardware subreddits / forums. If this will not give the game exposure i don't know what will.

Back in the Alpha days we did just that: use specified GFX settings & start training mission 1 (was shooting toxic waste in ring/asteroid field back then) without touching controls, note FPS :)

Land on planet. Have friends in full cargo racked T9s simultaneously dump all cargo 500 meters AGL. Alternate location, inside orbis or coriolis.... Many collisions and explosions ensue, be lucky if your pc does not cry. Repeatable system abuse. Other senario, have friend set macros to change thruster color as fast as possible while still seeing color change, follow friend at full speed nose up on 2g planet... Not sure if that one is network or system lag. I just stopped doing it when my friends potato started cooking....
