Make each station generate only one or two types of mission!

Depends on Economy or something similar. Plz get rid of that awful RNG-vinaigrette-bulletin-board, with whole lot type of missions, but nothing you really want to do.
Instead make each station generate only one or two type of mission. Like combat only missions, if station is military-based (of course you would also need change a lot of station to make them military. there is quite a few planetary military ports, but next to none military stations). Or refinery/extraction station generates only mining mission. Or stations taht have black market generates only smuggling and (pirate) mission, and smuggling mission should have destination only to other stations with black market. And so on.
In that case every player will only need to do some search on finding proper station for his need. And once found - he can do ONLY missions he really like to do. That will also help picking good mission out of 'trash', if single station generate like 10 combat only missions, or 10 smuggling only missions.

I would rather you just pick what you want to do so you don't have to worry about RNG putting a halt to your game time. I would like to select a faction pick what kind of work I would like to do for it which would be scaled to my rank and let me have at it. That way when I have a given amount of time to do something I don't have to worry about a mission drought for what I want to do.

I have no idea what you just said, sry. I re-read it like 5 times, honestly O_O

He said he doesn't want mission to be random anymore (RNG = Random Number Generator), but rather pick the mission type he wants to do in order to maximize his time.
He wants to select a faction and choose what kind of mission he wants to do for same and scaled to his current rank.

He doesn't want to loose any time search for the only mission type he like to spent his time on.

I'm sorry but i don't like any of the idea here ! And i don't think anyone in the game will like this idea.
Indeed people like to found a home a stick with it for quite some time. So they like pick they mission they like at different station and stay around a few system.
Generally they pick what pay the most, and it can be smuggling, delevering a message, products... it's not always the same mission.

In addition many people don't like to have travel too far away from their system homes. They are scared to go the unknown... (of course many other people are the opposite, with explorer, some traders...Etc.).

Furthermore if they like PvP or see that other player are around, they'll stay around their homes systems.

I think mission should be less random and more with a scenario. For example you did good smuggling trade, more smuggler should contact you and say something more personal like : "We have heard that you did a good job for X, and we want to hire you to do..."

Yeah, the game should keep track of what sort of missions you do and offer more of those missions accordingly. I was bored last night, what no haulage missions being offered for my Condy and even the outpost missions which I could do in my Python required Elite status (I'm Tycoon and Allied with the Empire).

I'll agree fully to this. There are ways to minimize missions stacking as well for combat, Traders could be given a proper shopping list based on their cargo capacity(maybe with rare goods included!), etc.

Some of us are more interested in having a galaxy that behaves believably - i.e. people need a large variety of stuff done - than we are in maintaining a particular rate of credits per hour.

In earth reality when you are good at a job, you have then a good reputation and you have more clients or offered jobs well payed.

What i wrote goes on that direction or realism. If you are good at smuggling, more smuggler will offer you smuggling jobs...

in my understading, missions are coming from minor factions, not from stations.

also, missions are the most efficient tool to change influence in a system.

so, if there would be always a mission given of any type, influence of a minor faction would be easy to gain.

if there would be only one kind of mission, there would be only one way to change influence.

both are no good in my opinion.

question: why do you need missions to play the game? if i want some combat and there is none, i go for a RES or CZ, or look for distress calls. if i want to trade, i take my trutter, and buy and sell stuff.

That wouldn't be boring at all. I want to see lots of different mission types. Sometimes I want to assassinate someone, while other times I want to deliver 30T of toilet paper. It's not always the same and many missions I accept are based on my available play time.
