Make Escape capsule manual control!

Like all previous elites I would love to have a manual Escape capsule launch button, this could incur a penalty for retrieval costs. If some forgets to launch they are killed or pay a bigger fee for recloning, this would make the game a little harder and more daring.

Imagine in a fire fight you would have to be careful instead of just 'oh I will be cloned anyways' mentality.

Also players could earn a bonus for picking up escape capsules and returning them to a nearby space station.

Its the one thing I miss and would be a nice addition to the game :)

.... or pick it up and log out for the night or possibly head off to Sag A*. That'd be great fun for the Commander that had been scooped, wouldn't it? ;)
 
Hmm, good point but what about a manual control so its down to the player to decide or is there a reason its automatic?

I would like the escape capsule to be somewhere in the game maybe you could put it in a USS or something meaning we could save a NPC commander and on occasion this could lead to a mission. Or save the escape capsule from certain destruction etc
 
Another one is a new mission 'Wanted alive x bring him to us' on the BBS, currently when a pilot is killed they are respawned in the safety of a station, maybe a crime family want you to destroy a ship enough to warrant the escape system to kick in then scoop him and bring him in.
 
Ironman mode... with recent/future NPC AI advancements...

Oh yes please .. My wishlist says things like;

(1) Eject is trigger happy .. one touch of escape mechanism and out you go (ie. please no; eject .. are you sure?? .. YES .. I am!!!)

(2) Ejecting self destructs the ship (and manually triggered eject is illegal in range of a port)

(3) Escape Capsules can be captured!! As in, wanted NPC's give a bonus to bounty, if captured alive and delivered into custody. Cmdr capsules branch in game software, so the ejecting player is returned to last dock (give or take a dice roll** perhaps) but the other player, winning the battle is still able to retrieve Cmdr capsule (now an NPC) for a bounty if wanted, a reward if it's a rescue .

(4) Dice rolls; a PG explanation as to why your escape capsule never made it back to port, describes a risk that I think should be a small but present probability.

(5) Eject may be set to auto .. eject toggle to AUTO is a safety option, pilot always survives, but it happens slightly earlier than current ship destruction. In other words, ship may eject you after 3 modules fail, even the though the ship might have been recoverable.

(6) Permadeath! A possibility .. yes please, I do definitely think so ;)

(7) No escape capsule control. I'd like to see the canopy pop, remlok come down and then an exterior view (it is a wishlist after all) of the seat escaping from the exploding ship and powering away into the distance .. followed by rebuy or you are dead screen, as appropriate.

Obviously I'm easily pleased, no pressure then, and OK to have this in please by next Wednesday?

ps. ED is already .. very very awesome .. I love it even without eject eject .. but +1 to this OP
 
Would love to have a proper escape capsule. They managed it in the original BBC Elite, so surely we can have the same mechanic now ;)

There was a real skill to judging the last possible point at which to hit that Esc key and eject - otherwise permadeath! And to see your ship meet its firey end as you speed away from it in your capsule and journey back to the nearest station. Or maybe have to wait around to be picked up as something that small is not going to have all the gubbins needed to make hyperspace jumps... so many cool ways this could bring a bit more realism to the sim (different escape capsule options with different capabilities for example), and make death more meaningful than it is now.

Bring back Ironman indeed!
