Make Stronghold Carriers open-only

This seems like the perfect compromise to me. Some players have been asking for open only for ages. Others have been just as much against it.

So, compromise; why not make Stronghold Carriers only attackable in Open? This is no more effective, but gives these players the chance to actually fight back! Even better, defending players can respawn right there, and even have zero rebuys, so it's very open for first introductions. Meanwhile, attackers at least have a longer rebuy as they travel back, so you'll get something for fighting them off, even if you lose more than you win!

Basically, just nerf the merit rewards for attacking them in solo. Even a ~25% reduction would be more than enough to basically invalidate solo play, as the other side could attack YOUR carriers and be much more effective, doing it in open.

To me, this seems like the perfect solution; everyone gets what they want!
 
The game allows for all modes ??? Also if you want it so badly if you don't instance with an enemy you get a 25 % reduction because you ain't dangerous enough ???
 
To be honest it sounds a lot more like the thin end of the wedge than it does a perfect solution.

Does it though? I've not played many MMO-type games myself, in fact I think this game is the very first one of those types that I've ever played. But I get the impression that it's perfectly possible for a MMO-type game to have "PvP zones" with sliding down the slippery slope into making the entire game PvP-only.

Nah, you'd always get the open rates, because someone COULD instance with you. 25% is enough to justify playing in Open but not enough to justify fiddling with your connection to prevent instancing in most cases.

Ultimately, pvpers deserve to have their own space where they can have fun, too. This would be the perfect place for that. Locals can respawn instantly and have no rebuys, allowing them to defend effectively, while attackers are offered a premium to justify being there even if they're being slowed down by defenders.

But at the same time, it doesn't needlessly interfere with those who don't enjoy pvp. Everyone wins.

Bear in mind, I'm by no means a pvp player. I spend most of my time in solo or PGs.

My greatest struggle with pvp is that in most contexts it simply doesn't matter. This would give me a chance to have a defensive fight - and even die - but have my contribution actually make a difference.

But this would be the limit of what I'd want. A few isolated pvp zones, never full-scale open only. Which really wouldn't work anyway, due to the instancing problems you'd see on that scale.

Only if you're attacking an enemy's stronghold carrier. Essentially this would just allow powers to DEFEND themselves, not compel them to be attacked!


Totally agree. I would add powerplay CZ open only as well.
I feel like that would lose some of the key advantages of Stronghold Carriers. Like the instant respawn. That's been one of the struggles of CZs for years. Pvp there really only slows EVERYONE down. It's just not an effective approach, unfortunately.

If some significant changes were made, or new PPCZs added to make pvp more reasonable, then that might change. But as things currently stand, I'd be against that, for consistency's sake if nothing else.

Like I say, this should be a compromise.

So with open ( blocking along with different timezones and 4.0 and god knows how many different instances) is open open ? or is it a series of Private instances which you have a higher chance to instance with friends ( cooperative play ) than someone else ?
I would be happy for a small bonus if you had instanced with the enemy and even a smaller bonus if you lost that encounter .
But not because you are in your own instance ( you call open ) ??? Nah you will never instance with 99% of the players in game when you play. Just because you think you are playing "dangerously " doesn't mean you are .

Another week another, my version of Open Only is different, thread. There are already two active threads on the subject including one specifically aimed at Power Play 2.0. We don't need dozens of the same old arguments all over the place.
