Make the engineering grind remotely palatable

The Elite ranks, the faction ranks, Powerplay, Engineering, Odyssey - almost every possible feature has been blatantly set up to be a grind.
It's only "a grind" if you make it that way. I jump around doing different things a lot. I never do any one thing for very long. I've been playing since March of this year. I've got about 600 hours in. I have Elite III trading and Elite Exploration and most of my ships are fully engineered without even trying.

If you're single minded on something to the point it's all you do, then that's your issue. Fact is, there are so very many different things to do in this game the only way on earth anything is "a grind" is if you make it that way all by yourself.

You're doubling down on missing the point, I see.

Your original comment was "I wish they would actually go away if the game was so bad".

Meaning, rather than improve the game and make its experience enjoyable, you would rather pursue anti-inclusiveness as a policy and promote the idea of not enjoying this game.

If you can't understand why that demonstrates that you just might have a game in dire need of improvement on your hands, I don't know how to help you.
It is enjoyable. It needs some minor tweaks, but in general it's fine as is. I'm not the one complaining about something that won't change significantly.

If more players would take the time to learn how to fly ships without engineering (or C rated and unengineered if you want to go as far as I first put ships together for combat) you'll find that engineering is largely optional.

It comes across that too many are watching YouTubers telling you there's only one way to enjoy the game and that's with a G5 engineered Corvette.

If you choose to play while ignoring the grind goalposts, more power to you. That doesn't change what they are from the perspective of what the game's design functionally is. That is not the fault of any of the players that the game's design is this way.

We are agreed that it is enjoyable. I differ on the view of the magnitude of the tweaks necessary, and on whether things cannot be changed. It's disingenuous to paint Engineering as largely optional when it is exponentially better than "vanilla" in every key aspect of a ship's performance, and when the game pits you against enemies that have Engineering or are designed with Engineered ships in mind.

Nothing about this has anything to do with Youtuber advice.

That comment right there says it all. It's "YOUR" problem because that is the only way you currently or will ever see it. With that mindset, there is nothing on this earth that FDev can ever do that will satisfy you.

This is the point where you simply find another game to play. This one is simply never going to be what you want it to be.

Yes, the engineered ships are better, but it's not necessary to go for G5 engineering when a ship is basically unstoppable at G3. If I can take down pirates in a threat 7 nhss in my iEagle, a G3 Krait mk2 will have the same success. Yes, full circles at G5 exist, but they're only there for your own sense of completion.
Wing missions are just the same with more numbers. Non-wing missions still involve a wing of engineered high-rank opponents.
I meant the wing assassination missions which feature heavily engineered NPCs, not the massacres which largely contain gun fodder or can be completed at a Haz RES . Those and fighting thargoids are about the only thing I'd suggest you need a G5 ship for.

I didn't say you had proposed breaking the game 🤷‍♂️ I said perhaps the changes you think would streamline things for "noobs", to prevent the long horrible sounding gameplay YOU chose to do when engineering early on, perhaps those changes aren't what the makers of the game would want?

I'm also not suggesting you haven't played long enough - you've played during a time when the game is simpler faster and easier for new players.

Engineering is indeed a long process, and the progression process is a choice by fdev. How different would ED be if new players had fully engineered ships within the first week playing? And to be honest some new players already speed run things to get a carrier without even playing the game, then wonder where the gameplay is.

🤷‍♂️
It'd be a fairer one for a start. And a game that doesn't gate its core gameplay behind an artficially stretched, RNG-heavy loot grind and obscure upgrade process.

It'd have been fair if it was marketed as grind chase from the get go and not hundreds of hours later of player time and nerfing that what players may have enjoyed up to that point on top.

Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!!

This is one of the more ridiculous statements you have made. I actually laughed out loud at this.

As I said above, play in whatever style you like. And if it sucks feel free to either:
a) modify your play style.
b) stop playing
c) keep playing that way and rant on the forums

Very good and eloquent job of pointing out the flaws in their arguments; I agree completely with everything you've said. Thanks for taking up the burden.

Unfortunately, this thread has reached its endpoint. They've made it very clear at this stage that no rational argument will change their minds, and that they'll happily sit here and make bad arguments until the end of time, just to waste yours.

But the fact they're forced to turn to making fun of anyone who doesn't enjoy the game in the same way they do clearly demonstrates the truth, and hopefully any dev who might read this thread one day will easily see that.

As for myself, I wash my hands. My points stand, and I still believe they will lead to a better game for everyone.

And that's good enough for me.
