Newcomer / Intro Making money in ED is work... Make sure you take time to play :)!

I get the impression that a fair number of people are trying to make money as fast as humanly possible. That's fair enough as far as it goes, but you have to remember that we work to make money, and spend that money on play time!

Gong from station to station doing missions or carrying cargo can get repetitive, so why not take a break every now and then to spend a bit of time (and money) looking around, seeing what's out there? The whole Galaxy is our playground!

It's good to work towards long term goals, but there is no real reason to rush... Enjoy the journey.

+1 def good advice, I am still trying to adopt this philosophy. 400 Billion systems..no need to rush :)
Elite is an excersise in patience and immersion.

BTW-the most credits Ive ever earned is about 50k and somehow I always end up bak to around 4K...yet Im still havin fun :)

Yup! This is just what I intend to do.

I spent a fair amount of time just entering and leaving stations as it was just so beautiful to look at. I'm hoping to spend as much time sightseeing as grafting.

Exacly. Money in this game is like 'cash money pocket change'. you get enough to pay your way through the day, get a few treats here and there, pay your buss fares. ED isn't about stockpiling cash. it's about being a person in a world.

I find myself making the most money "accidentally" by being interdicted (bounties), scanning systems while travelling to another location, finding prototype tech or other goodies in USS and so on. At least in my Cobra...

I've managed to navigate the bounty hunter rep minefield, have the main faction in system allied and so make all my creds bounty hunting and selling the cargo they drop, so no work for me :p

Mixing it up is definitely the best advice and the best tonic for a happy life in general.

I have to say at the beginning of Gamma I did a huge grind of mining and a bit of trading in order to get my into a Cobra within less than a day. It was a bit intense and had me feeling like needing a break for a few days (which is a net loss right? I could have just relaxed over 3 days and gotten the same thing)

SO i would totally recommend the OPs advice. Last night was great for this as i floated around doing simple missions to up my standings and to explore the local markets a bit. And every 30 mins or so i would go out and pew pew some npcs a bit.

The last one turned into a 30minute fight with an Anaconda... which was a LOT of fun

I def having fun following your advice. Especially since I already made 10 mil before Frontier ruined all trading with their idiotic market simulation. So I can easily afford an A grade fitted cobra.

+1 agreed OP!

For now, I enjoy flitting about in dense asteroid belts mining and being attacked by pirates (picking up bounties even in the middle of asteroid fields away from extraction sites!) - nice rep/cash earner too! ^^

+1 OP.
I am sad that I like trading and returning a profit, then running to the outfitters to see what I can afford (usually nothing). Before I dock I normally take time to tun my ship around and have a good gander at the planet, and try and line it up with the system sun for fun.
