Trees in JWE were essentially glorfied decorations. Animals could never physically interact with them and often just phased through them, which is probably why the sauropods couldn't feed off of them. By making them "solid" (for lack of a better word) we could see dinosaurs have much more meaningful interactions with them. Sauropods could actually feed off of them, ceratopsians could rub there horns against them like rhinos, and various other could use them as scratching post.

I saw the feeding animation in the Amargasaurus species Field Guide video and that was the first thing I noticed Brachiosaurus feeding from the trees
