Mamba advice?

Yup a real topic about some actual gameplay.

I just bought the Mamba and as far as I can remember the thing runs hot?
What would be the best engineering to run it efficient and reasonably cool?
I got all A grade modules and fitted the biggest shields, four shield boosters, 1 huge mc, 2 large beams, 2 small mc.
I could just swap my fdl parts but I rather build this ship up from the ground.

Some insight would be very much appreciated.

When i was grinding combat rank i used to put all beam turrets + huge MC on anaconda. Thermal vent means you can just let the turrets go when they are all hitting you actually freeze over. Was probably very inefficient now i think about it. Maybe didnt need all of them.

Here is my Mamba build:
Phoenix Black Knight

Originally I had Huge MC, 2 x Large Beams and 2 x small rails but found the current set up works best for me.

I haven't had any overheating problems at all.

I see you use an overcharged powerplant and dirty drag drives, the heat problems must not be that bad then?
I was thinking about armoured PP and clean drives because they keep the temps down, I rather use overcharged and dirty though.
I'll use your example as a template, thanks!

Themal Vent beams is good too, thanks!

Thanks, just remember my current setup is a work in progress, still got a bit more engineering to do and things to tinker with (that's half the fun isn't it lol).

The reason I swapped the MC's and Beams around is I found the huge MC took too long to spin up. I originally had that set up as I was worried about overheating and had Thermal Vent on the two large Beams. Found out that heat wasn't a big an issue as I though it was so swapped the weapons around. The huge Beam just melts shields and the MCs are very effective on the hulls. Yes I know I am probably the only idiot who uses Smart Rounds experimentals, but at least I know I will never have to leave a Res because I shot the wrong ship :D

Also, be cognizant that my build is for PvE as I don't do PvP at all.

Happy trails, may you enjoy your Mamba as much as I enjoy mine (y)

I've built an explorer Mamba with 40 ly jump range. I engineered it to Grade 5 clean drives, fitted a 5A fuel scoop, and it runs so cool I can be fuel scooping to the max fill while initiating the jump sequence to the next star. I'm not exagerrating. I was amazed.

I think Palin's clean drives are under-rated by modders in the rush to get the dirty drives.

I only fly pve also and I'm gonna try your huge beam in combination with foyr MCs.
I just got my fsd to g5 and g5 dirty drives and scooped my way to jameson, no heat problems at all while scooping.
I'll put a thermal special effect on my pp just to be sure.
On my way to Marco Quent now.

Thanks for the tips.

It's not a cool running ship, but the heat issues with the version that made it to live are overstated.

There is essentially zero reason not to use dirty drag drives. Any other option squanders the ship's single largest advantage.

No reason to use an overcharged PP on a Mamba either.

Agreed, heat issues are overexaggerated greatly. You'll have issues with stock Mamba maybe.

I disagree about overcharged, I'm running it on my Mamba with thermal spread so I can power even the most energy-hungry setups. Currently have a PvE Prismatic shield tank build and can still run power hungry weapons if I need to. Runs cool enough with kinetic weapons or efficient energy weapons.

You could go armored PP with thermal if you run hot weapons but still need power.

Honestly there are a ton of ways to build a Mamba without heating issues.

Yes, mine is one of the fastest ships I have with G5 dirty drives, boosting around 625 m/s and a top speed of over 500 m/s. Very agile.

I have a couple of fixed pulse lasers and a couple of rail guns which I can fire forever and never overheat.

It's a fun combat ship IMHO.

Edit: Oh, and a huge MC for once the shields are down. Lethal.

The best engineering for a mamba is to throw it into a G5 garbage chute, since that's where it belongs; in the trash
I'm afraid I just couldn't find any reason to like it, or basically just any reason.

Okay, thank you for sharing.

Anyways.

I've got g5 dirty drag drives, g3 overcharged thermal vent PP, g5 fsd mass manager, g4 charge enhanced distributor, g4 reinforced fast charge shields and four various engineered boosters now.
Only need to do the weapons but the temps are normal so far, nothing dramatic.
The huge beam produces some heat but I'll work on that, probably efficient with thermal vent.
I haven't decided on the MCs yet.

The speed is nice, 505 with four pips and it seems agile enough.
I wanted to get me a Mamba next to my FDL but waited until they fixed the landing gear, the thing only costs a little over one hundred mil so no pain there.

Tomorow I'll probably take her out into a HazRes and see how she performs.

Thanks for all the advice guys.

Hope you let us know what you think of the Mamba once you have finished tinkering with her. I know a lot say (quite rightly it seems) that the FdL and Mamba are one and the same, or close enough that it doesn't matter. But for me, I prefer the Mamba solely based on the hardpoint placements. I prefer to have what I am attacking above me than below me, so having all the hardpoints on the upper surface of the fuselage suits my flying style - simple as that :D

Yeah, IMO the mamba is the single best fuel scooper in the game. Especially in VR; doesn't change the scooping characteristics but that cockpit view is awesome.

Ah, the great paradox of the Mamba...

It's main purpose is as an Apex combat ship but, if you want an Apex combat ship, the FdL does the job just that little bit better.

Still, if you must have a Mamba, there's not really much to worry about regarding heat.
If you got for a build that doesn't include lasers of any kind then things might get a bit toastie but as long as you have some lasers, and apply the thermal vent mod', you'll be fine.
