Mamba exists solely for APA PVP? I don't understand what it's for.

I bought one and started fitting it out with engineered modules. I love how it looks, I love how it sounds, and I love that the C4 hardpoint is on top.

The problem was that once I had it engineered up, it was just a bad FdL. I can't even see the point of using it because it's so similar to the FdL in every way that it's just adding a niche-role ship to the fleet that already has the perfect ship to fill it - an FdL.

Yeah, it's a tad faster, but I don't think that's of much use when the turn rates are quite a lot worse and it's such a big target to hit - and let's face it, the turn rates and lateral thrust rates really do matter - whether it's PVP or PVE.

The reshuffle in hardpoint sizes isn't something I can make much use of, nor is the reshuffle in interior compartment sizes either. The only thing I can find that the Mamba does than an FdL doesn't do better is fit C3 APAs - and the problem with APAs is that they really belong on a more agile ship like a Chieftain, FAS, Clipper. Oh, and the Clipper's faster than the Mamba anyway :(

So Beta people with experience, what am I missing? Convince me the Mamba is great because the only thing it would do for me right now is make a sub-par replacement for my FdL.

Midnight Black Mamba... looks great.

However, until the rebuff, this ship will just be a hanger decoration.

Tidy ship.

I havent even got those size 1 wep slots filled and it kills everything anyway.
I agree its a FDL in disguise. My FDL is sold and now I have the Mamba. Wouldn't have it any other way.

I'm finding the Mamba quite interesting.

Hardpoints and internals are, arguably, more useful than an FdL.

Personally, I find the FdL very "drifty" in the way it flies and the Mamba is more precise.
That's enough to make me prefer the Mamba.

Honestly, given that the Mamba is supposed to be a "racing ship", it should probably be noticeably lighter/faster than an FdL, especially since the FdL has it's magical shields and armour in it's favour.
Add in the fact that the Mamba is a considerably bigger target than the FdL and the Mamba really does need some worthwhile advantage to make it truly competitive with the FdL, though.

Am I alone in thinking the Mamba is butt ugly? It just doesn't look right at any angle. I can't put my finger on why I find it so ugly though!

I am with you. To me, it looks like the ED equivalent of a stretch Hummer ( https://fivestarlimonv.com/wp-content/uploads/Black-Stretch-Hummer-Limo.jpg ), but instead of sawing it left-to-right through the middle and adding a portion, they took an FdL and sawed it front to back, and inserted a cockpit there. I am really surprised people think it looks great. It's the weirdest looking thing...

If you try to do what you did with your FDL, it will just be a crappy FDL.

Need to leverage it's unique strengths and work around it's unique weaknesses...which, unfortunately have been softened considerably in the beta 4/live version we have now.

I wasn't all that impressed with it in the beta.

Still very nice looking, but since the 2nd Alliance ship, I've gotten quite bored with cloned internal ships. A little creativity would be great.

Sure, you moved the huge hard point from the bottom to the top. Great. It's an upside down FdL.
Or a sideways FAS, or an inside-out cobra 3... I know somebody's gotta be able to come up with something better. Ask Larry-the-Intern in Accounting. I'm sure he can come up with anything more creative.

We've figured out how to use all the ships we've had a long time ago. Reskinning them and moving the hard points around doesn't really make new ships new.
