Mamba HUD oddities

Noticed this right when I jumped into the Mamba for the first time, but never bothered to do a direct comparison until today...

The size of some of the Mamba's HUD components is extremely different compared to other ships. I made a few screenshots to compare it with the Python:

Mamba on the left, Python on the right. All screenshots made with the same resolution.

As you can see, the station menu is considerably smaller on the Mamba's HUD, whereas the docking assistant is considerably larger than on the Python's, and probably all other ships. At least I don't remember ever noticing such a striking difference. Other HUD components appear to be normal.

I'm glad you posted a picture showing the "Leaving Station X:XX" symbology as well, as you can see it is skewed off to the right and rotated a few degrees off of where is should be. Maybe it'll get fixed. It annoys me more than the smaller HUD elements.

Damn, didn't even notice this pretty obvious bug, but now I can't unsee it. :(

I actually like the smaller HUD. Makes the ship feel different.

Personally I prefer different handling, different stats, different internals... you know, stuff like that to differentiate ships. But whatever ;)

I think the "Problem" is that you sit way further away (compared to the other Ships) from the Display (Screen 1),it`s very noticeable in VR.

I thought about this, but why does it only affect the aforementioned parts of the HUD and not the other parts? And why is the Mamba the only ship in the game where this is the case?

I don't think it is. I just spent some time in the Gunship and everything appears larger than in my FDL. The SRV is another example. Since you're so cramped in there, it looks like the panels are really close, and thus larger.

In VR the reason for this difference is very clear.

In the mamba , the radar and all HUD are further from the seat than in other ships like the Python.
That's why the size looks different in "2D".

Unfortunately I can't check it in VR myself... but tbh it doesn't sound logical... you say the seat in the Mamba is further away from the control elements... this would explain why the station menu looks smaller.

But it doesn't explain why the docking assistant looks larger and everything else looks the same, does it?

Oh, and the "leaving station" bug, isnt a bug, those messages in VR again float (for want of a better word) in space between the main hud and your face. Because the hud in the mamba is further away, the perspective on floating elements looks different.

Its one of the really good things about the mamba, it's a bit mental. The cockpit is mental, and the huge eff-off stickyoutbits are bonkers. And the hud is further away.

It's great.

Oh, and Fdev? Don't change it please ... if you want to change any ships, please put the DBS cockpit graphics back in their correct place [smile]

I noticed this during beta. I came to the conclusion that by accident or design whoever laid out the cockpit had used the version of the HUD that you see in the SRV, and I think also small ships such as the Eagle.

Side panels generally are a pain to use in VR, but the small ones particularly.

It really makes sense if you try VR, probably be good to borrow an old DK2 or something, I have an old spare one but it's out in the Middle East at the moment. A lot of the visuals don't make sense in ED until you actually sit inside the ship viewing at 1:1 scale.

@thistle - Yes, absolutely amazing environment in VR, I just sat in mine at a port for a good 30 mins or so taking it all in. Still haven't kitted it out though.

Taking your word for it.

I've been considering VR but I'm a mouse/keyboard player and very happy with it... don't think this would work well in VR, though, would it?
