Mamba is a speed ship (boosts to 490mps)

Did I miss something here? They said its supposed to be a racer, yet with g5 "engineered" drives Adam was only boosting to 490. What's going on here? An explanation would be nice.

And to be clear for those who don't have Prof. Palin unlocked yet, my FDL does 560 with a full combat load out.

Yea i was confused buy that. They said it was faster than an fdl. But... its not! I guess it might not be G5 thrusters.

Looks like Adam had his ship configured for battle over speed.

I think a stripped out one will go pretty quick.

My buddy was speculating that he might have had g5 engineered, E rated drives instead of A

I hope he forgot the drag drives and overcharged his E plant.
Otherwise the performance was a bit meh.

I hope so. Using boost with Dirty Drive Grade 5 thrusters while near planetary surface = Heat. At least, I hope it was that.

Otherwise the devs have work to do. For now I wouldn't want to be fuel scooping in that ship. [where is it]

Putting my money on ~600m/s boost in a light config.

I highly expect Adam's was both very heavy and not using A rated dirty 5 drag drives.

As I said in the livestream recap thread, it should be at least as fast as the Clipper given the base speeds provided and the description of being faster than the FDL. In the livestream it definitely was not.

He left the hard points deployed and was 20ft above a planet which both presumably slowed it down?

It ought to be slower than the Clipper otherwise that ship has no reason to exist.

The clipper is not just for combat.. infact its a fast trader with guns more than a combat ship. Has loads of uses.

My Python boosts a little faster than that. Have you checked its acceleration? Perhaps it's more like a Viper 3, not the best top speed but it's quite nippy.

Could also be that it has a decent max speed but a poor boost speed.

He has forgotten to upgrade from class-E thrusters and has G5-modded them

Did he state they were G5 dirty drives ? For all we know they could have been clean modded, the speed would fit for that.

the overheating near the surface kind of suggests dirty drives, but could be.

also he said in the stream he 'fully' engineered it to show 'maximum speed', that would be dirty drives and the most plausible is that he just forgot to replace the thrusters.
