Not even going into how garbage chat is in VR, the game denying me sending direct messages is just outright annoying as hell, put in the /d and chat vanishes before I can even start inputting the name. Can we get a nice QOL to chat already?

Yeah communication in Elite Dangerous feels like an after thought. It's somehow gotten worse as the game has progressed. They really need to overhaul everything communication related.
I really hope for a complete overhaul of the communication UI with the Social Hubs in Odyssey. The current iteration is really what keeps me from socializing with other commanders in an easy and nice way. For example, it would be nice to set up group chats with various friends and allies, or some improved ("instanced") local chat that covers the entire system without broadcasting your message over all game modes and instances.
